View Full Version : How do you get two JJ2 versions in the same place?

Alrighty. I have JJ2:TSF, and have had it for the past year. I recently acquired, by no means that I am going to tell you (:D), Jazz2 1.23. I'd like to put these two versions in the same folder, but I'm afraid that the files from the installation file I got yesterday will overwrite my TSF files. I also want to be able to access all of my levels from either version.
Is there any spiffy way I can do this without destroying my TSF stuff?

No.

install the files of 1.23 and TSF in separate folders, like:
c:\games\jazz2
c:\games\jazz2tsf
no other way to do it, otherwise the jazz2.exe files will overwrite each other

i've thought about renaming the Jazz2:TSF file to Jazz2 (1).exe, and installing the other JJ2 overtop of it, so that Jazz2.exe is 1.23, and Jazz2 (1).exe is TSF.
Would this work at all?

Well there are other files with common names too. You'll have to go through and find which files have the same name and rename them all. Even then it may not work though, because JJ2 looks for certain files and the names are hard-coded in.
May I ask why you want to do this?

Yes, there's really no reason to put them in the same folder.

Tried it,doesn't work!
I even think it caused some major bugs!='

That's because some files that are version-dependent can not be renamed or Jazz 2 won't run, like anims.j2a. It will access the wrong anims version and crash. Short answer is no.

Because I'm missing too much in the 1.23 servers, but I want to be able to play my levels wot i have now in my 1.24.
Edit: Turns out that 1.23 installer was actually 1.20. Darn fudgesicles.
Edit again: And then there was the 1.20 -> 1.23 patch. All hail jazzjackrabbit.com.

And at my JJ2 it works fine! 1.24 is called Jazz2.exe, and 1.23 is called Jazz2w.exe (don't ask why). They work good and even don't mix up in JazzTool. I don't get what's the problem on your PC's!
