Can you play 16-bit in windowed mode?

Try upgrading your DirectX and video card driver to the latest versions.

What OS do you have?

What do you mean you can't run it? Does JJ2 crash when you select 16bit? Does the option not even show up?
What version number is your JJ2?

What is your processor?

I can't select 16 bit colour!
To be able to play Jazz Jackrabbit 2 in 16 bit colour, you must have an MMX-based system such as a Pentium II or equivalent or a regular Pentium system with MMX technology or equivalent.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a Non-PII MMX system and I can't select 16 bit colour!
Some MMX based systems may not display a 16-bit colour option from the Video pull down menu while in Windowed mode.

You should still be able to choose a 16-bit colour mode using the in game menu's by choosing Options -> Video -> Resolution. You can easily pick out any 16-bit resolutions available to you as they will be followed by a x16. e.g. 640x400x16.

This bug will be fixed in the next upcoming patch.

Was it ever fixed in a patch?

...I don't believe so...

I had a PI and was able to play in 16bit color...slow as all :( but it ran.

New system with a new engine under the 'hood'...P4 1.6Ghz :) (not fastest but it's faster than what I had)
