It certainly does. In my story its like a seeker that doesnt home and can blow up walls, in your story its like twice as powerful as the nuke from starcraft, and here, well, it's like a seeker that doesnt home and is an auto-KO. Whee.
(Acid, we don't want this to end up a MasterCheater story where one unstoppable good-guy force is pwning the universe)

RaCO2 rocket: A modified, high-payload dumbfire missile, strong enough to destroy walls with a single punch.
RaCO6/(g) Tactical Thermonuclear Missile: A super-high-payload dumbfire missile, which can also be switched to fly-by-wire mode, that has a blast radius of roughly 10m.
RaCO rocket: A standard, high-payload dumbfire rocket capable of taking out at least one enemy per rocket.

All classified under the name RaCO.

So nyar.

Okay, so sue me if I'm not all that precise :p

They were mobbed. A tide of Kiyrenin surrounded them, and clumsy as they were, they were effective. No matter how many fell, more always took their places. Defalcon had the feeling that they just kept regenerating, and that they would never run out.
In a very short time his blaster clips ran out. He drew Nightfire and realized that he was fighting merely to keep himself alive. There was no chance to attack, just to defend. Then he realized that the Kiyrenin wanted his blades.
He spun and ran one through, then ducked and slashed. He turned again and sensed a blade coming down. He ducked away, but not quickly enough. The hilt struck him just below his left ear, and he shook his head, dazed. He managed to parry another blade, but the blunt end of a spear in the stomach left him gasping for air. One last strike and he fell, stunned and winded.

(Note: I SAID it would be abbrieviated! And sorry, Defal .... Anyway, back to the story.)

Copper lunged and ducked, disabling a Kiyrenin who had slipped up on Claw's blind side. There was no chance to call retreat - she saw Defalcon fall, and Kaz tumbled from the sky, evidently struck down by a telekinetic or a mage attack. She didn't see if he landed safely, for the Kiyrenin were slowly forcing her and Claw apart.
She sensed something behind her, and turned. The Kiyrenin backed off slightly. She froze in surprise.
"You!"
"Me," came the reply. Copper shook her head, wondering if that last blow had addled her brains slightly.
"I should have known," she said. "All the signs pointed to you. The initials ... the origins. I should have known."
"I did my best to hide myself. It's not your fault."
"Arath ..."
Arath Kyren. He had been Copper's brother's best friend, and had indeed shown talent early on. Copper had assumed him dead in Kroys' fatal attack. Apparently he had survived.
"Indeed. As you can see, it is I. I can offer you your lives in exchange for some small things."
"Let me guess - all the magical artifacts we possess, along with Electrik and Radium."
"Electrik will not be necessary."
"Forget it, buddy."
"Indeed ... I am sorry, then." And with that, he drew his sword.
He was slow and cautious at first, testing her defenses, not really engaging in full-out battle. She returned blow for blow, not really sure what he was doing. She nearly slipped past his guard once, and then he began to truly fight.
Arath's eyes were filled with a fanatical look as he lunged forward, his gold-hilted sword tangling with hers. Copper had no idea where he had learned such swordsmanship. He was almost as good as Shinyso, which was better than her.
Searac's deep channels lay below her, a long drop from the bridge. They were in the middle.
Copper did have her problems.
Arath's blade caught Shale, twisted, and disarmed her. Shale went spinning across the bridge, a mere handspan from the edge.
Arath smiled in triumph, and she took a step back.
Behind her, two Kiyrenin restrained Claw as he fought to get away from them. Defalcon lay, dazed, on the ground, stunned while trying to retain his swords. Crystal was with Kaz, hemmed in by Kiyrenin. KRSplat stood, at a loss and disarmed, by the side. Sai was doubled over on the ground, gasping for breath, surrounded by guards. Shuriken clung to the edge of the bridge, watching nervously.
Copper drew a long knife from her boot, casting a look at her sword. Behind Arath, Electrik lay senseless, with Acid guarding him.
But Arath Kyren hadn't won yet.

I love doing that :D more tomorrow *runs off chortling*

Yay, a cliffhanger.
Great chapter... but why do all the big battles in stories always seem to take place on bridges?

Kaz

Becuase it's an easy way out to suspend the battle by blowing up the bridge.

I think I know where CT is going with this, but still not sure XD.

Yay, a cliffhanger.

Because it can be used as a plot device to get rid of characters; throw them off the bridge, cut the ropes, have the Balrog pop outta nowhere, etc. ;)

Great chapter CT.

That would be much more exciting if the bridge was over lava or spikes. Briges over water are more often used for hiding trolls under.

Coppertop
Jul 2, 2003, 08:17 AM
Hmm, I didn't think about that. You know, you're right ...
Kaz: be quiet! The only thing getting thrown off the bridge is ... well, never mind.

Arath raised his blade to strike. The mist that had been creeping into Claw's vision finally took over, and he was once more gripped by the killing insanity that he had experienced many years ago.
One of the Kiyrenin, perhaps sensing something, prodded him experimentally with the spear. Claw snarled and spun, his razor claws extending dangerously. His field of vision did not narrow, but rather expanded, and his awareness sharpened.
In short order, Claw was not restrained.
He lunged at Arath, and the startled Kiyrenin leader turned. He raised his sword, but no mere blade would stop Claw now.
Unfortunately for Claw, one of the Kiyrenin commanders saw him. In an instant Claw was on the mainland, quite a distance away.

(Whoops ...)

Copper used the distraction. Diving forward, she made a grab for Shale. But her wounded leg gave in, and she misjudged her leap. Shale went spinning off the bridge, just as Arath turned to see.
Tumbling end over end, sunlight flashing off of blade and jewel, the sword hit the water. It sank, glittering with reflected light, bubbles streaming past it, into the cool green depths. Lost in the vast oceans of Searac, Shale was gone forever.
Arath turned, enraged, and raised his blade to finish her off.
"It seems I've underestimated you," he said, and then he froze. He tried to say something else, but merely fell.
Swaying, the wound in his side seeping dark blood, Shinyso said, "you have." Then he, too, collapsed.

Defalcon sprang to his feet, startling the stunned guards. He snatched his blades back.
"I'll take those, thank you very much," he said, and the Kiyrenin simply stared at him. Then one shook his head and looked confused. The pair vanished, as did many of the Kiyrenin.
Acid picked his brother up gingerly, avoiding touching Electrik's uncovered fur. KRSplat recovered his blaster and Tiger's knife. Shuri peeled herself off of the bridge, and ran over to her brother, who was still on the ground. Crystal gave Kaz a high-five.
Claw reappeared, Tiger a step behind him. N0 drifted in, landing quickly and eyeing the few Kiyrenin left. They promptly left.
Defalcon picked Shinyso up. The lean telepath was still unconscious, and seemed to hardly weigh anything. Tiger came over to where Copper was standing.
"So you did it," he said quietly. "I did have a few doubts there at first."
"Now you get to tell me what part you had in all of this," Copper said just as quietly. Tiger laughed.
"Do you know how hard it is to transport someone from Diamondus to the edge of a bridge in Searac?"
"Ah," she said, understanding. "I owe you."
"No, you owe Radium and Shinyso. They're the ones who did all the work."
"You got that right," Radium said calmly from behind them. "Are you guys done here, or is there someone else you need to kill?"
"No, we can leave now," Copper said. "Like Tiger said, I owe you."
"If you want. Tiger, I'd do it myself but you know how Chaos Magic is ..."
"Yeah, we might end up in Tubelectric - or worse," Tiger agreed. The world rippled and then they were standing on the Starslayer Platform.
"Hey, nice trick," Kaz yelled. Copper rolled her eyes and shook her head pityingly.
"Now we have to go drop all of these guys off again."
"N0 and I have a ride, thanks," Tiger said. "Hey N0, anywhere in particular you want to go?"
"Let me think about this for a bit," Nobody replied. "Uhh ... no."
"Good. Let's go."
"They're setting a good example," Copper observed. "So, where do you want to be dropped off?"
"Just head for the War Tavern. I'm sure we can find our way from there."
"Sure thing."

Is not over yet! Don't go away!

With Searac receding behind them, Copper turned to Defalcon.
"Hey Defal ... you remember when we were talking about least favorite worlds ..."
"Yeah."
"I said I'd let you know when I'd found mine?"
"Yeah ..."
"I found it."
"What, Searac? Why, because you found out who the Kiyrenin leader was?"
"No ..."
"What, then?"
"See, I have this thing ... I can't really swim well."
"OH."
"Yeah."
"I got the point."
"I figured you might. Is Shinyso up yet?"
"He is, and wishing he wasn't," Shinyso's familiar voice said. She turned to see him leaning against the door, his injuries bandaged. "Thanks," he continued. "Though I really don't feel like thanking you. This hurts like hell. Actually, worse."
"You have Sai to thank for that," she said. "Don't blame me."
"Who said I did? Not me."
"Well, tell Sai that you owe him three claws in the ribs."
"Will do ... he probably deserves them, too." He left, Defalcon following, apparently needing to make sure that Shinyso wasn't going to go berserk on them any time soon, leaving Copper alone.
Radium came in. "Have you got a few moments?"
"Sure. What is it?"
"When we were on Carrotus, when we went to see your grandmother Skiye, she told me something that I was to tell you when we left Searac."
"And ... ?"
"'Frostfire is waiting.'"
"Frostfire?"
"That's what she said."
"I guess that the next stop is Carrotus then."
"Hey, would you mind telling me what Frostfire is?"
"It's Skiye's old sword. She knew that I was going to lose Shale ... and if she told you to tell me after we left Searac, she knew that too. Why couldn't she just have told me what was going to happen?"
"I have no idea."
"Sure. Want to come?"
"Nothing better to do. Why not?"
"Why not indeed ... "

"Well, what are you going to do now?" Acid asked Coppertop. She grinned at him.
"What I always do ... wander around aimlessly in the Assassin, relying on Claw and Shinyso, if he wants to come, to get me out of scrapes. What else?"
"True. I should have expected that ..."
The War Tavern's familiar surroundings reassured her. She had to admit that the last few days had been hectic, ending with the fight on Searac. She really didn't want any more adventure for a while.
"Now that I've got Frostfire, I don't have to worry about getting another sword," she continued. "Trust Skiye to take care of that. So ... what about you?"
"My vacation, unfortunately, is over," he sighed. "So I'll be back at work tomorrow, as usual. I guess a scientist is always in demand."
"Good point. That reminds me why I decided to be a fighter pilor."
"What, you were ducking honest work?"
"No," she said, poking him. "I get to set my own hours, dimwit."
"Oh. Hey, that would be nice."
"It is."
"Be quiet. Hey, where did you get rid of Radium?"
"I'm not really sure ... four of us left Carrotus, and three of us ended up here. He kind of vanished along the way."
"Are you sure he didn't get lost?"
"I think that's what he intended, Acid."
"Oh."
"Say, where did the others go?"
"Uh, let me think about this. Electrik is back on Carrotus, of course ... Kaz closed his eyes and ran through the closest portal, I think. Crystal is off on Lagunicus, don't ask me what she's doing. Defalcon headed for Teelon V, Sai and Shuri just kind of disappeared. I don't know where."
"Seen Shonar or Evaluator?"
"Yeah, Eval showed up long enough to ask how it went and to congratulate us ... I don't know what for. He said Shonar's just found another security level that he needs to crack. Don't ask me why."
"Don't ask him either. He won't tell you."
"I kind of figured on that. Well, I guess I'd better get back to Carrotus before Foo notices I'm back."
"Foo's here?" She looked alarmed.
"Yeah, he's over there with Phish. I think Phish keeps trying to persuade him to go bug someone else. Excuse me, here he comes. I was never here, got it?"
"Sure."
Acid disappeared. Foo wandered over, looked around, noticed that Acid was nowhere in sight, and began heading vaguely in Phish's direction. Copper shook her head.
"What a character ..."
"You meet a lot of those around you," Claw commented. "I think you kind of attract them, like magnets."
"Thanks a lot."
"Any time. So, now that we somehow managed to get rid of all those people, how about leaving before we get more?"
"Sure. Where do you want to go?"
"How about trying Kaz's tactic?"
"No, thank you, I think I'll pass."
"Just suggesting. All right, you pick."
"First, we head back to the Assassin, with Shinyso in tow if he wants to come. Then, we head for some random planet."
"That's basically what I said."
"Yeah, but with your idea you have no idea where you'll end up. This way is safe."
"Not on your life it isn't!"
"Is too."
"Sure. I'll believe you ..."
"That's good. Hey, where did Shinyso get off to?"
"I have no idea."
"You never have any idea."
"Do too."
"Do not."
"That's what YOU think!"
"It is what I think. Hey Claw, let's get outta here before Foo notices us."
"Foo's here? Yikes! Let's go!"
"That was my idea."
"It's a good one."
"My ideas are always good. When are you going to figure that out?"
"The day Firen's sky turns green and I can breathe vacuum. Are we leaving or not?"

The End!

OK, I'm going to take a (brief) break from writing and then I'll start a new one in like a week or so. I've decided I'm going to do something different this time ... I'm not going to be the main char, maybe not even be in it at all, and all the chars will be joiners (if I get enough) including the bad guy and main char. So ... who's signing up?
*waits*

OMG IT'S TEH END! *sobs*

Incredible story, CT. I haven't been around much to read your stories in amazing detail, but I've definitely ascertained that you have honoured yourself countless times by your writing. I eagerly await your next literary work of art.

/me hugs CT ^^

BTW, I'm signing up in advance for your next story. Use any of my characters you feel necessary, and as many as you want. Thanks sixty billion times and such.

BTW again, who is it that's storing CT's stories in WordPad files? Can someone send those to me?

What he said! *also sobs* /also hugs CT

I'll sign up too. Use any/all of my characters. I've only got two, so it's not like it matters.

CT, you didn't put N0 in any of the fights! So, I thing he should be in the next one, and have at least one good fighting part. He can really kick some butt. Litteraly. Between his tail/gun, foot/catapult and ANE yellow lightbar, he is an agile tank.

So, I guess that means I'm signing up.

/me catches CT as she runs by, being dragged a short distance by her momentum before stopping her short. He grins at her as she turns to look at him puzzledly.

Y'might not want to do that. You'll hurt yourself.

And then we won't have any new stories from you. :(

True.

Thank you for donating a generous portion of your time to looking up my dozens of characters, Copper. I will have two more profiles up in about two or three hours, so if you want to check back, do so at your leisure.

Scary, inninit?

You don't have to use all of them in the story. In fact, I'll even take it a step further: Please don't use all of them in the story. I'm begging you.

Or not.

Anyway. Check your PMs.

There was only one day in date difference, so you can't really call it "days".

If someone sends you mail at 8:30am on Tuesday, and you get to it 4:30pm Wednesday, that's still one day, despite it being 32 hours. Actually, in that respect, days can be up to 47 hours and 59 minutes long, if you don't count the seconds.
