JJ2 used to work fine on my computer until last week. Now, when I try to play the game, the cinematic movies run fine, but the menus are all distorted/blurred. And when I try to start a game, the program crashes, giving me an "Access Violation" error message. The only thing that runs fine is the music. Can someone please help me fix this problem?

OS: Windows 98
DirectX 8
JJ2 v1.24
Physical Memory: 192 MB RAM
CPU: Pentium IV 1.2 GHz

Oh and by the way, JelZe Goldrabbit told me to visit this site and ask this question here because he knew you guys could solve it.

Graphics isn't my specialty, but I'll try to help.

Did you try updating or reinstalling your DirectX?
Did you try other video modes in JJ2? (like fullscreen/windowed, different resolutions, 8-bit/16-bit color)
Did you change anything on the computer before this started happening? (Installing new things, changing settings, etc)

DirectX 8 updated to DirectX 9.0a. The problem persists. I tried all the resolutions, all the color modes (I don't have 8 bit color, only 24 bit, 16 bit, 256 colors and 16 colors) and if I try running Jazz2 in windowed mode, the cinematics run fine, but the game crashes when it comes to the main menu giving me a "Fatal Application Error". I don't think I changed any settings but I know I didn't install any new programs/hardware when this started happening. What now?

I said I updated DirectX to DX9.0 but the problem's still there. What should I do now?

Patience is a virtue and this isn't a pay service so don't expect to see a solution immediately. Seeing that Alberto isn't here, you'll have to wait 6 months to 1 year to get a good decent solution. :)

Have you tried reinstalling JJ2? You can always make a backup of the Cache directory and the levels you saved in your main JJ2 directory if you're afraid of losing them in a reinstall.

by the way, maybe you should try the Anti-access violation patch at www.geocities.com/atlastsome/
this should solve the problem.

His patch replaces the access violations with less annoying error messages, but it does not fix the problem.

Have you updated your video card drivers (or any other hardware for that matter) recently? If you have, you might consider rolling those drivers back or trying a newer version. New versions of drivers do not always function better.

I wish I could update, but I can't and haven't. I still have the same video card that I've had since I had my comp, which is 5 years. And the access violation patch didn't do any good. What now? Any suggestions?

PS, why was the site down?
