View Full Version : I could...

I could make a Jazz Jackrabbit game if you guys wanted, by the next couple days. I all ready have a whole game made, I'm just making the levels, but if somebody could get me the sprites for Jazz running, and jumping, in both directions, than I could replace the guy I all ready have on the game with Jazz, and make a Jazz game... The game is really simple, you just have to avoid bouncing boulders, but there's other stuff, like mines, coins, goop, soccer balls, etc. Not the best game, but it's pretty nice, and it'd be better with Jazz =)

Blork. I know there's a sprite sheet for Jazz somewhere.

The question is, that this would qualify for a fangame, right? Right?

I guess. I am a fan and it's a game... what do you mean?

Copyright laws. The Jazz sprite is probably illegal to use without a licence.

Jazz Ski Rabbit used Jazz sprites... anyway, I'm not selling this game. That's what fan games are for, not selling them, and ignoring all copyright laws.

Well, then Jazz Ski Rabbit was illegal.

Errr...no.

Jazz sprites are legal for fangames. You will risk getting fined if you sell the game or pretend you created the jazz sprite etc etc.
For fangames its ok to use the sprite, or at least I think it is.

As dozens of fangames have been made that use ripped sprites (most notably in the CK and Sonic communities), there would have been legal action if there was something wrong about it. Not to mention sprite-based web comics as well. I wouldn't worry.

I am pretty sure that using the Jazz sprites without permission is illegal. It is copyrighted material. But I could be wrong.

Fangame laws are so confusing.

Okay, than, I'll take a vote. Please, EVERYBODY vote! PLEASE. Should I or should I not use the Jazz sprites? I could join my own Jazz but that would look very bad.. Well, please say if I should or shouldn't, nobody says "I don't know" and "I don't care" because I need suggestions :p

You should. Even if it is illegal, you should. Just do it. :P

but first you have to get them...

Yeah, and that was what this post was about in the first place =) I've done enough sprite extacting with my Jetpack conversion though, and Windows XP is not exactly PrintScreen friendly, if you know what I mean. And if you are unlucky enough to have Windows XP, you'll know, and you'll feel my pain.

Wouldn't it be possible to hold the Jazz2 image button down while doing all possible moves?

Windows XP not print scr... OH! Yes, I know what you are talking about. Do you mean how it only captures a screenshot of the current active window, and not the entire screen?

You know - just do it. (Nike :P)

There are screen capture utilities that can make avi's or animated gif's with multiple sources for capture. One that comes to mind is SnagIt. What you could do is make the background on a level completely one color (prefferably black), and then have some invisible or same color tiles for Jazz to stand on. Then while it's capturing you could do the moves you want and derive a sprite sheet from that.

And I highly doubt Epic will care as long as you don't plan on selling the game.

Go ahead and use the Jazz sprites, though I have no idea where you could get them, same with the Spaz sprites. The Lori sprites can be found at LoriCentral though.

Okay, well, you will be added to my credits list, pronto if you can get the Jazz sprites for me. I'm really bad at copying stuff and ripping stuff, and it'd ruin the game.

The game will be released soon... as soon as I'm done. I have the engine completed, and all I need to do is make levels. The levels are easy to make; one takes about 10 minutes, sometimes 20 minutes.

As of now, the player is represented as a stick figure. I think it'd be a lot better as Jazz Jackrabbit, wouldn't you agree? I would, whatever it is! :p

What are you using to make the game? It sounds, err... hard, even with C++. I saw that the Jazz vs. Sonic Game used Games Factory, I believe, or possibly it was Click & Create. I know it wasn't Klik & Play or Multimedia Fusion. But anyway what are you using?

If you say which Jazz sprites you want, I can probably get them. Just not Uterus.

I am using Gamemaker. You do basically click and drag programming with it, so you don't have to write everything out.

There's no gamemaker.com, so do a search for "Game Maker" and click on Game Maker Pages.

I'm using Game Maker right now to create a mouse-based RPG shooter (360 directional, also). The best site to go on for Game Maker and other such programs is Gaming World (www.gamingw.net).

Also, using just the drag-and-drop icons will take FOREVER if you plan on having anything long enough to be worth playing (unless it is very repetitive).

I have the engine done, like I said. I am working on the levels, too. I just need the dang sprites.
