View Full Version : Devil Dash: Cut-scenes dilemma

I've got a program called ddFlic. It's supposed to morph .flc files into .j2v files. But the problem is that I am unsure about doing j2v files. You see, almost everybody knows that when we enter "ending" as next level, we'll get the JJ2 outro. But, when we enter "intro" (because the files are named ending.j2v and intro.j2v) the game says there is no intro.j2l level. So, is it just some anti-crash thingie which keeps players from opening intro, or only outro is programmed on that textstring? If the first option is correct, then everything is fine. But, if the second option is true I won't be able to make any movies for Devil Dash (except intro and outro which will replace the old ones), and then: 1) This won't be so cool; 2) The player will be able to play next episodes with stuff from previous ones. Of course both results are'nt terryfying, the level-engine-based cut-scenes will stay, and staying stuff can come in handy (as a reward for those who play previous episodes when the new one is released). So, what can you say about those darn .j2v files?

As far as I can tell, ending is the only .j2v file that can be used as a valid next level setting.

Ending actually returns you to the main menu in most situations. I'm not sure what will trigger ending to load the final cutscene of jj2, but I know if the level is played through home cooked levels it will just load the menu.

I have made it play the Godgames logo by that method, so I believe you would be able to do what you are attempting. If you can't, I suggest doing the cutscenes the same way Ninja Dodo did with his Jazz Jackrabbit level pack, the lost world.

Dodo's way sucks because you can view the movies without playing the pack. I'll rather like to use Moonblaze's way from The Demon Invasion ("Meeting with Moonblaze" level).

Get a Code for JJ2 exe files and set it that after: bla.l2v then bla.j2l ^^
Edit: Are you shure that ya know all abylites of that prog ? They may heave something to play "bla.j2l" after mooovie!

In a worst case scenario you could make a tileset with the all the frames in your video and make it a jj2 level with animations. But this would not allow for many frames, that's why it's a worst case scenario.

As Mike said, if you start a pack through the home cooked list "ending" takes you to the menu. It only triggers the ending film if you start it with Save & Run from JCS, or if you start it from the singleplayer episodes menu.
As for my method sucking... well, if someone doesn't have the self restraint not to watch all the cutscenes until they are meant to be watched then that's their problem. Unless Jazz is hacked to allow the loading of avis, or flcs between levels, this is the only way to show multiple non-level cutscenes in a level pack.

Unfortunately, you're right Ninja Dodo.
