View Full Version : Fooruman?!?!?!

Violet wants to replace Fooruman in the Fooruman game. This is due to (maybe) copyright stuff, and a bit of anim difficulty. I, however, am strongly opposed to replacing him. Tell us what you think.

Violet seems to have already "recruited" me to 3d model him.

I am fairly sure it was your idea.
For those who don't understand the topic:
Fooruman is a fooish wizard using the Terexin sprite from Hocus Pocus. However, no one we knew drew it, and it is rather hard to animate for a Fooruman sidescrolling game Black Ninja is making me make. Jumping looks paticularly ugly. I am thus in favor of creating a new Fooruman sprite to be used in the game, while BN is against it. Everyone seems to agree with me so far, so BN decided to ask more people.

Make a new sprite, the other one is too low-res anyway. I could help draw one ;)

Replace him, but make sure he resembles the old fooruman in a way.

Well a new one might mean indefinate changes to all foo races and stuff, anyhow it would depend on how it looked ;P

I can't really say. I haven't seen Fooruman before, so I wouldn't know if he needs replacing.

I would say keep him, because foo races wouldn't exactly be the same without him. A new one may damage foo races deeply. Changing fooruman would cause chaos.

j/k, but I am in favor of keeping the old sprite.

Radium's skills have reached new limits.
It's Labrat's.
I have a 3d Fooruman, but he is tall (no longer chibi-ish) and has a face that's as ugly as (pants). Not just any (pants), (red) (pants).

Gah, everyone seems to not understand what's being asked. Fooruman would not be replaced in the levels, this new sprite would be only used in the game to make animation easier. And of course it would look like the old one, otherwise there's no point to it.
When voting, keep in mind that what Labrat says is by no means true at all.

For all those that do not know, here is a picture that KJAZZ found of Fooruman. Be thankful.

I have also located a special picture of him.

Whee yay. Keep Fooruman the way he is. Or else he might not truly be a Foo anymore.

...Oh... But I really liked that earlier one. It was trez spiffy... If your version makes it into the game, could the ugly one be a secret character or comedy relief or something? He'd probably be funnier than Spaz, in my opinion. I about fell out of my chair when I saw that 'ugly' picture. :)

3d animation would be a lot nicer looking and easier than traditional sprite animation or... Labrat animation.

By the way, I'm hoping nobody will notice that he has no left hand.

Anyway, that 3D model looks nice, except for the missing body parts, the off color robes, and the very short beard.

Labrat animation, haha. I am great at drawing, but suck at animation. I love the animation and model for your Fooruman, but the skin for it seriously needs work. If you added a nice, detailed, Quake 3 Arena quality skin to it, I would hack J2O to vote to replace Fooruman with your model 1,000,000 times (just kidding, Frank Quist, don't ban me :)). Also... he is kinda shiny, heh. You should keep his wand shiny, and make everything else (not shiny, whatever). You ought to give him legs so you don't see the black when he lifts a leg, and than he would be perfect. Good job, Radium (yay). =)

KJazz, It would be (hard) "fattening him up" after subdividing. A can, however, hive him a hand (maybe even feet!), lengthen his beard, and recolor his robes. His beard is actually the same as the origonal Fooruman, but in proportion to his head. I'm also looking for a better texture. And Labrat, realistically skinning a robe is difficult in the first place, and it turned out ten tims better than I had hoped. I'm not touching it.
Derby: Abused content replacement.

O.o man Radium that is GOOD.
I agree with everyone else, give him legs and feet, his left hand, and make him less shiny besides the wand.
What kinda 3d program did you use to make him?

Okay, his beard is longer, his cloths are less shiny and the right color, and both his hands are there. I tried giving him feet, but they just kept passing through his robe and looking ugly.

His old, ugly version has gotten a better job as a demon barbarian (sword from 3dcafe.com)

Okay, Radium. This is getting scary.
First both of us use Game Maker(Right? I thought you did, when you were making that Jazz Fangame) And now both of us use Anim8or. What next, do you use paint shop pro?
Nice job on the update, the wand looks verra spiffy. However, I noticed the robe and the left arm look kinda messy. I know how hard skinning in Anim8or is, but it still looks ugly.

Stop BEING me!! To prove we aren't the same person/demonic illusion, we should determine who's better at what, and just call it a coincidence that we use the same programs.
Oh, and the robe looks screwy on his left arm because it's partly in his side, not because of the skinning. Skinning is easy, as long as your limbs aren't too close together.

Labratkid, you are wrong. 50% of the people use TGF, Multimedia fusion, etc. And a small portion use professional languages, like C and <s>Prolog</s> Basic.
Acid: Programming language edit. You guys probably wouldn't know what Prolog was, and it's not that great for making games anyways.

Oh no! When the origonal 3d Fooruman was turned into the Demon Barbarian, threre was a tragic medical error while removing his hat! The doctors (meeee!!!111) accidenlty removed the whole top of his head!

The red things are his eyeballs. Luckilly, his <s>tierra</s> spikes cover it up.

ERROR ERROR ERROR ERROR
Ahem.
I have Game Maker. I tried a demo of MMF. Right now, I can make fairly decent games with Game Maker, yet with MMF the only thing I thought was, "What?" It doesn't appear to have a decent help file. I don't know about TGF, though. May I also point out that Game Maker is free and MMF and TGF are pretty expensive?
waitasec, let me check some things out...
EDIT: Okay, I got the info.
MMF = $100
MMF Pro = $350
TGF = $30
TGF Pro = $50
GM = Free
Okay, So MMF Does have a help file. A quite detailed one at that. However, I do sense some false advertising: if MMF is so easy, why the mile-long help file?
TGF looks like an old version of MMF. So I won't go there.

3D GameStudio standard=$50.... and kicks the butt off of all those combined.
3D GameStudio Pro=$900... And you can't afford those ones after buying this. :P (but you get some really great features).
