View Full Version : Is Wallclimbing a bug? Or was it planned?

I've been wondering about this for the past year, and i thought I'd post a topic about this.
If wallclimbing was a bug and 2 people did start to wallclimb, (if it wasnt planned) wouldn't they get an Access Violation? Since supposedly the wallclimbing bug wasn't planned?
If the wallclimbing bug was 1/2 planned by epic as a little joke and forgot to delete it.
So, if the wallclimbing bug wasnt planned wouldnt we all get Access Violations because it wasnt written in the Jazz2 program?
Although it sounds stupid, it just might be true.
I ask anyone that reads this to give your opinion to this.
It is a bug where you get stuck in a mask, and then rub off each other, slowly moving upwards thru the mask. The that epic made was that when you buttstomp, you can still double jump, and when you are starting a buttstomp, you are not masked. So, basicly, it's a mask bug. Mask bugs don't cause access violations.
That answer your question?

ya, it answers my question sorta.
But if it was a masking bug, it wasnt in the program to have bugs :p so wouldnt it get an access violation?
*im confused now :7*
You know how in the Psych levels you can get stuck in the spikes? That is a masking bug. You know how when you put a warp target in a masked tile you get stuck? It's a mask bug. Mask just make jazz think that there is floor under him and a roof above him, and walls to the left and right. When you are in a fully masked tile, it thinks there is a wall to the left, a wall to the right, a floor benath you and a roof above you. So, it does what it was programed to do in each of those situations. It doesn't, nor never will give you an access violation.

You do not get an access violation because the game has no reason to give you one. It is possible to go into the wall without crashing.

I thought we we were discussing wallclimbing, not getting stuck in the ceilling in the first place.

URJazz has a good point though, its a masking error so spaz's double jump in 1-tile areas he can get stuck. But jazzers nowadays realized an easier way to get to the secret hidden goodies (in some levels)
Double jump and buttstomp.
Thx that pretty much answers my questions.

Wall Climbing is a bug otherwise it would have been found out sooner...

Yes, it is a bug. The weird thing is that this bug *didn't* exist in the OEM versions of JJ2. I am uncertain why/when the bug was overlooked.

In the OEMs, could you simply not get stuck, or did wallclimbing not work at all regardless?

It's all theory though...
