In the Netherlands, many, often international, meetings have been held with success.

The Americans keep talking about wanting meetings. So, do something. Start organizing the meeting. I'm starting the organizing by starting this topic, to talk about it.

There is the problem that the US alone is like, bigger than all of Europe.

That's why it's smart if everyone would add himself to the list and put the state he wants to organize in and/or lives behind his name.

What seperates the Teh Broadway Part and Teh Arr Let's shoot some indians part?

One is North, the other is South. Might not be easy for Florida people to go to New York and vice versa.

Hmm...the list is okay, but you forgot the midwest. From what I see, the following states have a notable number of Jazzers (included are number of people who would fall into that category):
- California (Southwest)
- Kentucky (Southeast)
- Maryland (Northeast)
- Minnesota (Midwest)
- New Jersey (Northeast)
- New York (Northeast)
- Ohio (Midwest)
- Tennessee (Southeast)
- Texas (South)
- Washington (Northwest)
- Wisconsin (Midwest)

The problem I mostly see is that there are a lot of Jazzers coming from California, and less so from New Jersey, but still a lot. There is not much else out there other than California with many Jazzers, except for Washington; Oregon and Arizona have very few, and the Rocky Mountain states have nearly none. Here are states with a lesser number, but still some:
- Alabama (Southeast)
- Arizona (Southwest)
- Delaware (Northeast)
- Florida (Southeast)
- Georgia (Southeast)
- Idaho (Northwest)
- Illinois (Midwest)
- Kansas (Midwest)
- Louisiana (South)
- Maine (Northeast)
- Massachusetts (Northeast)
- Michigan (Midwest)
- Nebraska (Midwest)
- New Hampshire (Northeast)
- New Mexico (Southwest)
- North Carolina (East)
- Pennsylvania (Northeast)
- Virginia (East)

Which leaves the following states with very few:
- Alaska (Completely unconnected)
- Arkansas (Midwest)
- Colorado (Rocky Mountains)
- Connecticut (Northeast)
- Hawaii (Completely unconnected)
- Indiana (Midwest)
- Iowa (Midwest)
- Mississippi (South)
- Missouri (Midwest)
- Montana (Rocky Mountains)
- Nevada (Rocky Mountains)
- North Carolina (East)
- North Dakota (North)
- Oklahoma (South)
- Rhode Island (Northeast)
- South Carolina (East)
- Utah (Rocky Mountains)
- Vermont (Northeast)
- West Virginia (East)

Basically, the thing is that most of the people in the JJ2 community live east of the Mississippi, but there are a lot of people out west in California, and less notably Washington and the southwest. It is likely that most of the players in the midwest would go to the eastern meeting if it was somewhere like New Jersey, while those in Texas might go either way. Jazz 2 players around Vancouver would definitely go to the west one, while those around Toronto, probably east. There are more Jazz 2 players overall in the east and, all things considered, the west meeting in the Rocky Mountains areas to accomidate the midwesterners is not necessarily a great idea. The Rocky Mountains are not exactly highly populated. The other question is where to meet for the westerners? San Francisco, California might end up being a good midpoint. The easterners might meet somewhere like New York City.

EDIT: Having North and South would be sort of odd...if northwesterners had to go to the northeast it would be more driving because the U.S. is longer than it is tall. Besides, the midpoint for northerners would be *shudder* North Dakota or so, and southerners would be *shudder* around Texas...

I actually thought about northeasterners going to the northeastern meeting and southeasterners going to the southeastern one. Or to the one above or under them, ie north and south. I thought about just splitting the thing in 4 parts so we could get a global vision of where everyone lived, *after* that we could decide on meetings.

That said, why don't you guys just copy and paste the fricking list and add yourself? :P

Here's what I came up with:

I don't know where exactly people are within some states, so those I just placed somewhere in the middle. You see this especially in Canada. :P (Those people in middle of Canada are the unlocated ones.)

I'll probably continue to update this image as I get more information.

I don't know everyone in the community particularly well, so that's about all the other names I can provide you with. And just to let you know... Fresno is not really that "south", seeing that I passed *somewhat* close to there recently. Hey, whatever floats your boat. All hail the, ah, EAST COAST MIDDLE CALIFORNIANS! ;-P

As far as a possible USWest convention, my parent(s) and I could most likely help a lot with organizing one in my area (San Francisco, preferably), even if they have never heard of half of you folks. However, the chances of me attending the convention are somewhat low, because I am rather reclusive and mostly unavailable besides the fact that the only people I would actually be interested in seeing are PiZZa, Trafton, and Nova.

Anyway, whatever. Good times.

It's nearly impossible to have everyone come to one meeting, but what if there were several meetings in different areas at the same time? Then we could have webcams and stuff to make it seem all together.

So you would organize one in your area but not go to it? That's not really logical. I would think it's a missed opportunity, even if the people you want to see might not be there.

Trafton

Labratkid, autism is typically not something that requires restraint among high-functioning autistics. Being that Bjarni has learned a foreign language and speaks fluently, one would assume that he would be fairly high-functioning. As such, it is doubtful that he would require such restraint; mostly that only applies to profoundly autistic people.

Believe it or not, I'm kind of... ah... antisocial offline. It's rather odd, seeing that I enjoy talking to people, but being around them for too long tends to really get me nervous and agitated for seemingly no reason at all. I'm a little psychotic at best, if not paranoid. Yes, I will organize something, but will not attend it; I have done such things before without missing out on anything. ;-P

And Unknown, you live in Santa Cruz, right? I could probably come by one of these days, if your parents don't mind. =)

Hiya!

I live in Eugene, Oregon.

I know of another Jazzer that you missed, "Chimera". She used to go by the name of MidN, and hosts a server by the name of "Once upon a mindnight dreary" most nights. She lives in canada... somewhere. If someone could join her server and tell her of this, they can ask what providence she lives in.

I'm for having a western meeting in California. I have a friend over there I'd like to visit anyways, and there's a good collection of Jazzers who live there already.

I like the webcams idea... It is nice, I mean, not only can Jazzers at different meetings see eachother, but the Jazzers who can't make it can see the meetings. If some problem or another occours, I have a budget web cam at home, and I get 10 hours of dial up service free each month through MSN... Yeah, it is kind of like one of those spairs that you buy to replace a tire that only is intended to hold out until you can get to a tire store... Anyways, it IS a webcam and back up internet service... Say... Lan Party?... O_O on second thought maybe not... My computer is HUGE. I could barely get the monitur up my steps, so I think I'll pass on taking it on a bus to California...

Hmm.. Lan party... Connect that Lan party to the internet... The other meetings have LAN partys too, and they are connected to the internet... Massive Jazz fest ^_^. *chuckles* But I won't be able to bring my own machine. But it would be pretty cool ^_^. I mean, people can make up some tilesets and levels for ... *scratches his head* Er... Oh yeah, we would be there to meet OFFLINE :P. Sorry.

Feel free Inf.Spaz. You two are only jazzers in that state it seems.

Ok, so looking at the map, the general clumps of (4 or more) people seem to be around the following locations:
Around southeast Pennsylvania
Central New York
Southern Ontario
Somewhere in Minnesota
Northwest Washington
Somewhat central California, on the coast

We don't necessarily need people to offer their places as a meeting place. Parks or other public places can work as well.

As the organizer of one of the successful Jazzer meetings in the US, I'd like to announce that it is likely that there will be a LAN party in mid-december (during most schools' winter break) in Boston, Massachusetts. More details are upcoming. It will not be jazz-exclusive, but there can definitely be a jazzer-only component. I'd be willing to bet that the stunning duo of Ducky and Blacksheep will be able to make it, as they did last year, though I haven't mentioned this to either of them yet so I can't be sure, of course.

So, start looking at your calendars, folks. It's not set in stone yet but I really want to do it. Look for more details soon.

There, quistman. Happy?

Besides Noogy, there really isn't anyone else nearby. And he didn't seem intrested when I e-mailed him about me meeting him. He answered every question in the e-mail execpt where I could go and meet him.

If about ten more people lived near denver, I would make some attempt to get everyone together, but since it's just me and Fox, and we are both going to the mines, this is my last post in this thead. Oh, and this is the last sentance in this thread.

Ah, friends are cool. *chuckles* I don't have any friends in RL, really. A friend that likes JJ2 would be nice, but to find someone in their 20's that likes a classic cartoony sidescroller that came out on PC enough to hang out and chat about it is not a very likely thing. *chuckles*

By the way, Monolith, you forgot to place me on the map. Pop one in the Eugene, Oregon location, please. :)

There's a place around Salem, Oregon called the Enchanted Forest, and a theme park right next to it called Thrillsville that may be a candidates for a meeting place. I'm not just saying this so I won't have to travel far, but since Oregon is right inbetween Washington and California, it is not without it's merrit.

http://www.enchantedforest.com/

http://www.thrillvilleusa.homestead.com/

*chuckles* I don't think anyone can stay at my place, though. I only live in a 2 room apartment... That, and I don't want anyone deciding that I have some nice stuff that would make a lovely souveneer. ;) Not really. I just think it would be kind of odd.

And sorry, Monolith, traveling isn't something I want to do too much, because it would require me to get someone to take me, as I have no vehicle or liscense. If there is a meeting in a neighboring state, though, I could possibly get a family member to take me.

Oh, and any final decision should be made months in advance, and take place at the most convenient time possible, so everyone has time to get ready & get prepared ahead of time.

The United States is larger than Europe. Most of the people who go to the meetings are Dutch, or from neighboring countries. Even though multiple countries may seem big, it's only about the size of most moderately large U.S. states.

Europe (including whatever they own of Russia): As stated here (http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/eu.htm)

Please read a couple of posts before that post you quoted me from, CT. Because I was kind of challenged to prove that Europe is larger than America, with the given circumstancecs. Hmm. Though arguing may seem to be the thing to do, it is actually quite counter-productive. The goal isn't getting any closer this way, and this is actually just making things even more complicated than they need to be.

It seems to me that when I'm offended, things only get worse when I loose my cool, and I don't think that the results are getting any better with you guys in the same situation. Furthermore, it is also no help to make quick judgements against people (and then blurt them out). First off, in such a case, you who are making such judgements are basing your assumptions, (in most cases), on an insuficient amount of evidence to support your case (and then in many cases, filling the rest of the gaps in with more assumptions).

I dunno if anyone here is hearing this (and understanding what I'm saying). But what I mean is, "quit bickering".

I was slightly offended by the "Americans are lazy" comment. And I'm sure that there were many who were offended by the comments about Western Europe being small. In both cases, I believe the accusers made uneducated statements. I apologize if I have typed something false.

And finally, traveling can be expensive over here. A round trip from Eugene, Oregon to a neighboring state could cost ... well... the price varries according to distance and the time of year, but it can be around 100 dollars, or it could be around 70 dollars, and stuff like that. Going by plane is rediculously more expensive (more than I care to pay). Then there's the issue of finding a place to stay, and taking into consideration food and a possible admitance fee (if the meeting place is a theme park). And with other expenses, the whole occasion could cost over a couple hundred dollars, and that is just a trip to a neighboring state.

The reason there are so many jazzers in California is because there are so many people in California. It holds about 20% of the nation's population. Michigan holds about 6%, and almost all of the East Coast states are quite densely populated. I know some other jazzers who don't play online that much who live around here, too.
