What other games do you guys like? JJ2 is pretty much a pure action game.
Personally, I really enjoy RPGs 'cus they seem to be more full games, where you have the action-oriented battles and then the story that progresses at the rate you choose... Most action games now-a-days have some pathetic storyline, I think if the game is meant to be action, then the storyline should be non-existent or minimal, just like JJ2: there was an intro and an outro! Other games, like return to castle wolfenstein had some stupid story... the original story just had escape from the castle, kill everything along the way. There was only a story at the end, where it just said you escaped. Doom was the same.

Though I fail to see why this is in General Jazz Talk, I like everything from Racing/Driving games to Action/FPS games to Strategy games to RPGs. Anything that isn't Barbie eXtreme Makeover :D :D

Anything but simulators, RPG's, adventures, and things of the sort. That leaves us with only action, and in some cases, games like Worms and Advance Wars.

I enjoy action games too, such as the popular Quake series, Unreal series, Doom series, etc. but they seem much to "short-lived". IE. Quake III is only fun until you basically memorize all the weapons and levels, which doesn't take too long. Then it's just continually shooting until your aiming skills are so precise that you could shoot the pixel on my forehead at 1000 km's away. But that takes time and not many people have the patience to get that good.
So that's why I see RPGs as the best, because it has your mix of action or strategy and adventure in it (ie. Fallout doesn't have action because it's turn-based combat, so that is strategy).
Strategy games (specifically RTS') are fun also, but again they tend to lose their flavour pretty quickly, albeit not as fast as typical FPS'. Starcraft was a lot, i mean a LOT of fun. I basically became obsessed with that game, but I got bored with it sometime because there was nothing new to it, and it was just sit around and crank out armies, then take over a new section, build new buildings, crank out more armies, etc. There are story lines in RTS' but they do not progress very fluidly: most of the time they progress in intervals, such as at the beginning of the level and at the end. Also they do not progress at your pace, whereas RPGs progress at your pace, and in very good RPGs, the storyline can be different due to your alignment or actions (though not many have this).
How is this related to JJ2? I'm merely comparing JJ2's genre to other types, and stating their weaknesses and strengths. Action games are for people who just want to cram a lot of good gaming into 1/2 an hour, because action games just start and don't stop until the end. RTS' are more involved because you have to plan out your strategy first and then slowly take over the map, which takes a good hour or few. RPGs take weeks to win because you can really take your time: if you can't get past this dungeon part, you can go back and try getting stronger or buying new equipment. Action games, if you're stuck, you just have to keep trying and trying, breaking the mouse/keyboard. RTS' are mostly, if you fail then you have to start over (or reload, but most of the time you'll want to start over). RPGs you have many choices with how to do something, whereas action games typically have little or no choice. RTS' have little choice, too: well I mean you have many choices on HOW to do something (ie. take over the base with lots of air-units, or take over the base from a distance with artillery, etc.) but basically you end up doing the same thing (taking over the base). RPGs you have many choices: you can talk the person through something, or you can kill them, or you can just run away.

The other genres I play in order of most played.
RPG
I love them. Alone or with friends, doesn't matter much, it's my favorite type of games.
Favorites: Final Fantasy Tactics, Suikoden 2, Final Fantasy 5, Final Fantasy 6, Ragnarok Online, Final Fantasy 4, Chrono Trigger.
Fighting/Beat 'em Up
I only play these with friends but it's so much fun.
Favorites: Soul Calibur 2, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Tekken Tag Tournament.
Strategy
From time to time I'm addicted to one.
Favorites: Seven Kingdoms 2, Age of Empires 2, Metal Knights.
I also play some other games like the Mario and Zelda games.
Rage

I mainly like RTS games (especially wc3), but I'm also in love with Soul Calibur 2.
I basically like games in which I can play by my own personal style, which is pretty hard in racing/sports/fps/platform games.

Lessee here...
I've been Playing Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
Good stuff. The Quake III engine without the Quake III players. that = Good. Also it is like having Quake III and a game with a story at the same time, minus the disgustingness. Playing it, I was wondering why Quake III is a stand alone product, anyways.
Uhm, and I like Deus Ex.
Furcadia is tolerable
I still haven't gotten my settings configured so I don't time out on JJ2
Rayman 3 is good stuff. Best 3D platformer I've played.
Then there's other games I've bought that I've barely gotten into. Which is kind of dumb because here I buy this game or that game and I hardly play it. Good thing I usually buy bargins. I shouldn't be buying any new games until I take the time to play the last ones I bought. I mean, really.

Ah, my brother has been drooling over Rayman 3 ever since he first saw it. As soon as he can scrape together $20, I can guarantee we'll have it.
I just got a new X-wing game ;D Wheefun!

Rayman 2 was better than Rayman 3, IMHO. Rayman doesn't really keep me playing; when I can't solve a puzzle or something I just quit the game and play something else. In Rayman 2 I just kept trying for hours :D

That happened with Rayman 2, with my brother, he couldn't get past the Iron Mountains, so he quit for a few months. Then he started again, and finished it in like two days :)

I can't wait for Worms 3D!
Oh, and I hate Rayman, but Spaz loves that game. Maybe I'll start liking him from the third part, because I heard it's no longer so sweet and cute.

I have too many games now to list my favourites... but there are some oldies that I've played for like 15 years:
Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, Wacky Wheels, Worms, The Incredible Machine, Battle Bugs, Warcraft, Dune II, Lemmings (1, 2, Chronicles, paintball (3D is crap) and revolution), doom, duke3d, blood, shadow warrior, jazz1+2. Errgh there are some more, but those games are mostly old ones that probably 1/2 of you haven't played ever (at least when they were new).
Now, the newer games: Baldur's gate (1+2), Worms (2, armageddon, 3D, world party (WWP is a waste of money), Age of Wonders (2+shadow magic. I got into this too late to get into the first one), Dungeon Keeper 2, Morrowind, Battlezone (1+2), Planescape Torment (Best game I've ever played, and I've played a LOT of games), Lode Runner 2, Thief (1+2, can't wait for 3), Deus Ex, Rainbow six games (there are like 10 of those stupid games. still good though).
Errgh I believe those are most of the games worthy of mentioning. There are probably 100 more, but most games are just doom/warcraft clones anyway that look nice.

Worms 3D is great! I was a bit disappointed at first, due to the crappy camera controls, lack of customizibility, the huge font in multiplayer, the fewer weapons compared to W:A (I thought there'd be like a lot more weapons or = amount to W:A's). But I got over it, it was just me adjusting to the new worms atmosphere. The thing I like about Worms 3D is that it doesn't make the previous worms game obselete.
I remember buying Worms 2, so therefore I never played the original worms again because Worms 2=Worms+ a lot more. Then W:A came out, same thing, Worms 2 basically became obselete, so I erased it and that was it. WWP was different though, didnt' add much new content to really be happy with, so I just left W:A on (I hate that stupid cake and the pink clouds in WWP). Yet Worms 3D is much different from W:A, it takes different strategies and such to win, while in W:A there was shopping, rope races, BnG, dark-siding, etc. so the gameplay was very different. W3D is a new, fresh experience that is basically Worms, but taking on a different perspective. I just hope customization goes up, and some minor bugs I've seen get eliminated.

I'll start playing it online more when I'm not doing work. Anyway, I hope the maps you make can be played online. If it takes 5 minutes to send it, I don't care because I like to give my maps to my friend with flash disk, so therefore we won't have to send them

X-wing Alliance I have. I was actually surprised with it, I was ready for some crappy money-making game, but it is actually pretty good. Graphics are still pretty good, not hideously ugly to look at... yet.
Oh I have RA2 also, but I was sort of disappointed in it. I expected it to be 3D at least, it just seems too... uhh... not as good as the original Red Alert

Yeah, with RA2 that was my dad's disappointment too. We watched the beginning video and it was so great ...
X-wing Alliance is as good as X-wing vs. TIE, which in my mind is a bonus, but I got the first X-wing and it had really bad sound and graphics  and I got Rogue Squadron, which was better.
You can tell what games I play the most :p
