View Full Version : What's your view on today's community?

Sad, isn't it? If you're not a newbie that thrives on hotels, you'll understand what I'm talking about. Ever since I came back, basically every server has been packed with hotels and newbies. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind them, but it's the fact that so many of them follow that same sterotype that we all hate. Also, I haven't seen any of the old regulars that used to play. I'm guessing it's a mixture of a boredom towards the game and school. I haven't had much time to play, either, except on weekends. Now of course I'm not trying to start a flamewar here, so if you have a view of today's JJ2 community, please make sure you have a well thought out and balanced opinion. If I end up getting some replies I'll expand on my opinion of what I think is a steadily growing TSF immigration to the 1.23 version.

I agree, but some hotels are good, like Blacky and my hotel (which isn't hosted yet, but will be within a month or two), Violet's hotel, BN's hotel (Fooville), and there are some other good ones, that are on TSF, like Pyroville (Pyromanus). However, some just get plain annoying, and some of these aren't even made by noobs, such as Queen Liz (not trying to make a PA).
Someone whose name I don't want to give out was going to start a rant about these on the JCF, too. The best thing to do when there is a noob hotel up is to host a server of your own, preferably a CTF one since noobs stay away from this challenging gametype. NEVER host Diamondus Warzone (capture3) when you are trying to dodge the noobs, and NEVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER host B1, B2, or B3 (battle1, battle2, or battle3). Those levels are noob magnets.

I think that the admins of J2O should send a letter to all the users by means of some automatic thing that emails all the users registered that reminds them that JJ2 is still around and you can play it with some patches, because most of the players left during the evil summer downtime.

JCF = sux - 1

In other words, the JCF is getting worse and worse. >_>

If I'm correct, you're referring to the forums in the JCF. Forums such as Comedy Cafe, which hasn't been funny for months if not years. I'm starting to question why that forum still exists.

They are talking about JJ2, not the JCF.

And n00bs are a good thing, they make better players later.

Maybe someone should host some sort of training thing that trains the n00bs how to play CTF.

I'm not voting because all I ever do is hack JJ2 now, I never just go and play.

The option "it could be better" is a bit misleading. It could always be better. I wish there was an option that said "all right, although not fantastic" or something to that effect.

And, NS, when exactly were most JCF posts not spam-related? When comparing the JMMB to now, one starts to feel better about today's JCF.

Okay, Magoo was not referring to the JCF or the game. He was referring to the state of the community, hence the people ( or fans) that make up the online games and populate the boards.

I think that the state of this community is going down so fast. This has turned more into a board of friends than actually to discuss Jazz 2. The posts on this board taht are about JJ2, are just an excuse to talk. Because teh rule stands strong.

Alot of people who were very good friends of myne, have left the community....Wakeman, Onag, Alienator (My bro, what a faq..hehehe...) and others, but alot are still here. So every now and then I linger around the boards checking out whats going on and who's going on :)

Point in case, for those who spend their time in #jj2, when was the last time a good healthy discussion of jj2 came out? eh?
When I go in there, it's usually immature discussions of slapping or fingering, just fun talk between friends. Alot of my friends are there and that's why I go occasionaly, not to talk about JJ2, but to talk about stuff.

Another point, when JJGBA came out, nobody cared? Why I ask? Was the game not good? I don't know I didn't play it. But that doesn't seem to be what should matter. If anything, why not look at it as a level pack (That cost $30.00, he he) with some cool additions. When I heard this was announced, I got excited, I'm not sure why, I don't enjoy playing the game much, I just seemed to reminisce of old feelings I got...Like waiting patiently at the original Jazz 2 site with Dethman, clicking the refresh button until the demo appeared. Then playing the demo for the next 3 months non-stop! Now that's addiction! Okay, that had nothing to do with what I was talking about.

So as a whole, this community is the same it has always been, not quite about Jazz, but about the friendships inspired from Jazz.

-That's my blurb, Charge

I've been away for a long long time, and what I've come back to, is definately not what I remember... :( there were very few people who I recognised, and even fewer who recognised me. the majority of players are people that have joined since I left. I'm sure that it's the server downtime that I'm hearing of that killed it for many JJ2 players that didn't use J2O.

I haven't seen any interesting levels or tilesets, and the majority of what I've played in are hotels. There's very little friendly chat, and the majority of talking that goes on is flaming between Viper, Grath, and Yumoma. Those 3 always seem to be on every server I visit.

What's happened to the unique levels, the interesting tilesets, the makeshift gametypes like wallclimb or survival? And most importantly, what's happened to the players???

I haven't played online since that last ABash, but all of this disappointing talk about the community going downhill is probably worthless. There are always valleys and peaks. Don't you guys remember in 1999 and 2000 on the JMMB when everyone was crying about how Jazz was dead? It's still here 4 years later. People are playing. Of couse there are noobs, there will always be noobs. We were all noobs, once. If they get their acts together they could grow to be vital parts of the community.

I always always always always say this, there needs to be a weekend dedicated server at a scheduled time with the latest quality levels. I would host it myself if I could, though I don't have a lot of time currently.

People complain about #jj2, but #jj2 and the JCF are the same as far as ratios of Jazz2 discussion to misc. There isn't a whole lot to talk about as far as Jazz2 goes, anyway. To Charge, Onag is still around, check the Future of Jazz2 forums. And you should have seen the tons and tons of discussions about GBA3, it was like a few months of overflow, and new members, and all sorts of stuff. It kind of died down since a GBA3 title (that was hardly even a Jazz game) is no big deal, but you can't brush it off...."FIX0RS TEH JAZZ JACKRABBIT!"

Anyway, the community is currently in a valley. Wait until the school year is over and the holiday season. Wait for a new season of JDC. Don't complain about bad levels, make your own good levels and host them. And if you don't like it, deal with it. No one cares.

This topic was made to create new ideas to improve the community in general, not just #jj2 and the JCF. Instead of focusing on the negative aspects of this, we need to be thinking positively. Maybe then we'll actually get somewhere.

My opinion is that we are here because JJ2 was not popular so there were not many dedicated players, many of those players left because of lack of support, more players left because JJ2 was never that good of a game, and more left because there are better games now. Dedicated communication+a small group=friendship. I think that most of this community are really JJ1 fans who bought JJ2, anyway, which is why many don't play JJ2 anymore. Newbies? Most new players will never become a part of the active community because: they are rejected ad shunned, most of them don't are about a few obsessed Jazzers, and most are either disappointed or only bought the game (or downloaded it) for a couple of days of fun. I think that if JJ1 was online, this online community would have a more pleasing atmosphere.

Wow. Just about all of what I just said contradicted various things that I have consistently said in the past.

LRK, let those noobs host what they want, there's no need to start a advancement of resistance to noob hotels. If you don't like hotels, host your own servers or go to other servers ;P.

I'm not saying that I like to play in hotels myself, but if they wanna play it, let them play it. You can't control what everybody does at JJ2.

I agree with what Spaztic said. Maybe I'm not the one to rate this since I play very very few outside JDC, but the activity of "non-noob"-players raises with the launch of a new JDC season. And it runs down to a valley when the season is over.

Still, the hotel thing is somewhat sad. Of course it's cool that there are still new players joining the community...but hotels :/. I don't like that. Such a dedicated server like Spaztic mentioned it would be awesome. I bet it could bring some lazy butts back to playing (such as me :P).
