Plus it's a bit weird how everyone seems to speak spanglish. Even the TSA agents who check your luggage at the airport. I think that the more northern the location, the better.

Concidering you basically went from the center of LA, straight out to Las Vegas, I'm not too surprised that that was the impression you got. ;P The interesting parts are more along the coast, or in the mountains.
