Round 5 Over - August 15, 2005 - 4:38 AM
Round 5 has ended and this season is just about over. Submission of duels, 2on2s and events are over except for the closing events (check the event page for times!). If you have a duel to verify, do it before tomorrow or it will be deleted.

By the way, season 11 will begin in about two weeks so stay tuned for more information and season 10 awards as soon as possible.

Round 5 Begins - August 8, 2005 - 5:38 AM
The final round of season 10 has begun. As we've done in the past, the final round of the season is worth more than the previous rounds making for an even more important final week.

Expect an exciting finish because unlike the previous seasons we currently have a very close overall standing with the top three players all within about 50 points of one another. Good luck to everyone.

The Team Race + TAYCR Event - August 7, 2005 - 3:00 AM
This was probably one of the most interesting events I've ever been apart of, to say the least. There was an onslaught of problems at the start, most notibly all of the renaming during the pregame. That delayed the event for about a 15 minutes, but I wasn't going to just give up.

Then there were some problems with the first race level. There was one thing I overlooked in that level (as well as all of others), which prevented me from using the method of recording I originally wanted. To be honest, I set up how I would do the event near the last minute and assumed scoring would be easier. Well, it wasn't, and with the renamer still at large I decided to switch to TAYCR.

The three TAYCR games went all right, aside from lag. There wasn't any more renaming, so I decided to give Team Race another try. I made recording those games a lot easier for myself, even if it wasn't perfect. In my opinion the last 5 games in Team Race went a lot better than all of the other games. The hardest part came when I had to do the scoring, but it wasn't that bad (see the rawscores if you dare).

Overall, I wouldn't recommend anyone to use Team Race as I did for an event ever again, unless that person has some sort magical Team Race program. I still enjoyed doing this event though.

JDC JailBreak - July 30, 2005 - 2:52 AM
The Jail Break event went well although it was rather quiet. I won (:P) with 20 points, and GreenPlant got 2nd. (And a large mass of people got 3rd) Don't forget tommorow EvilMike is hosting a ground force event, be sure to download the level pack because download lag in that event is very common, and frustrating.

Goldrush event - July 26, 2005 - 1:22 AM
The event went well, and AE managed to win with 20 points.

Since the server was limited to 12 players, some people weren't able to get in. If you wanted to play and couln't, post a comment in this thread. If there is enough demand, I will host the event again tomorrow at around the same time, for everyone who missed it today. People who played in todays event would not be able to play.

Scoring - July 25, 2005 - 1:11 PM
It seems that there's a slight bug the scoring system. I don't have time to look at it right now but I'll fix it as soon as possible. In the meantime you can continue dueling but your overall score may change slightly as it is fixed.

Update: I think I found the source of the problem and I believe all issues should be resolved now. However, I will double-check this tonight so do not consider this issue closed. Right now I believe that there was a slight problem in scoring. Duels played against someone with fewer than 4 duels in round 1 should have had opponent quality NULL (not enough information to assess quality); however, I believe it was being entered at 0 due to a bug I didn't catch. As a result, opponent quality was being lowered in ways it should not. This corresponds to the now higher scores you see in round 2 results. I have resolved this issue in the current code.

The issue was however apparent last night when the round changed and I believe that corrected the issue. Whenever we change round details, JDC rescores itself completely and ensures that things are correct. In the past there have never been discrepancies but it's good to know this one was not able to linger on further. I urge all of you to double check your round 2 scores (opponent quality in particular) if you believe something to be incorrect. The information page is your best resource at understanding how scoring should be taking place. I apologize for the error and hope that this is the only thing that went wrong.

Round 3 Begins - July 25, 2005 - 8:06 AM
Round three has started. So far everything seems to be working, although I noticed the scores for round 2 changed a bit. I've informed bobby of this and he will probably be able to see what exactly happened tomorrow.

People still seem to be doing a lot of 3vs3/small events. Unfortunately, this means I will have to begin editing events to zero peoples scores when they do them in excess. This means that if someone who does these events a lot does 2 in one day, they will recieve zero points for the second one.

This will only apply to people who do a lot of these events. A player who barely does any 3vs3 games and then does 2 in one day will be unaffected.

Keep these events limited to no more than 1 a day and you won't need to worry about scores being edited by mean admins. This policy comes into place starting now.

Larger spontaneous events will not be edited.

A general reminder - July 23, 2005 - 7:15 AM
I have noticed that some people have been doing a lot of 3 on 3's and other small events lately. So far they haven't gotten too out of hand, but I would like to remind everyone that if you wind up doing too many games like this, restrictions will be placed on these games.

Please try to limit yourself to no more than one small event a day. This basically means any event with 6 or fewer players (which means 3 on 3 ctf). If people start doing too many of these, we will have to begin zeroing peoples scores for these events when they do more than one in a single day.

The reason for this restrictiveness is because these games are worth raw points. No limitations on them means that they can be abused for very large amounts of points, and the administration does not want that to happen.

A note to all officials: Since you are the ones adding these events, it's up to you to make sure people don't do them in excess. When adding scores for these games, look how many of them the players have done already that day. If you think someone has done too many, feel free give them 0.

Tournament levels. - July 19, 2005 - 7:47 PM
We just did a tournament with 16 players, quite successful except people kept leaving at the start. So noone from round 1 gets points. I will do one once a week, but if you have any tourney levels that work and are proven to be good, I will host them for you. I will do another one in this round so that it will make up for round 1.

Anyway, in the tournament, noone from round 1 got any points because you all left and didnt win at all.

Round 2 - This was a bit more exciting. Dalspots played well. Vegito lost by server lag apparently, but he still played well. Danyjel lost to the winner of the tournament. And Sonyk, he lost to the person that was 2nd place and unexpectedly did a very nice roast on r3ptile. The reason Dalspots got more points, is that she waited till the tourney ended and didnt spam.

Round 3 - Even more exciting. Chiyu lost to Snooze, and R3ptile beat GP. Gr33n Pl4nt came in 3rd place after a "Bronze Duel" with Chiyu, and Chiyu had to go straight away so he left.

Round 4 - The most exciting. To be honest I thought R3ptile would win this as he usually wins these tourneys. But to our surprise Snooze fought for the 1st place. And got 15 points. I say GJ. And to R3ptile, sorry about the lag, it is a bit unfair that you live in Isreal and Im in London. But Snooze won and GG.

Well, you should kind of have a basic idea of what it was like now. It was a 1on1 duel tourney and your pairs were random, Including the finals. If you would like me to host one of your tourneys, do tell me on msn. "Sabatazayoni@hotmail.com" is me. Anyway look forward to the next tourneys. I will post this time. In the future, I will say it is happening a day before it does. It was fun for me to watch. =)

Edit : We just did the second one recently. The ranks were :

1st : ChiyuCC
2nd : FireSworD DM
3rd : Sasik
4th : Strato

Server for Duels - July 18, 2005 - 3:55 AM
This isn't something I can guarantee I will be doing the entire season, but for now I will be hosting a semi-dedicated server whenever I'm idle/away, and anyone that joins can duel there. At the beginning I will just be hosting Battle Game XC (and maybe other smaller levels), but later on I'll let players choose the level, especially if I can get a program/script for IRC to automate this. If you plan to duel in the server, make arrangements beforehand, and don't idle. It's first-come first-served, and if someone asks you to leave because of a duel, please oblige.

The server will have Duel Here in its name, and the password will always be jdcduel. If you plan to host your own dueling server like mine, I recommend doing the same. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Round 1 ends soon - July 17, 2005 - 10:45 PM
Just a reminder, round 1 will end at around midnight today, which translates to less than 12 hours.

There seem to be a number of unverified duels. Please verify them if you can, becuase the ones more than 1 or 2 days old will be deleted when the round changes.

Euro AYCR Event over - July 16, 2005 - 10:43 PM
After 1 hour and 40 mins of jazzing, and an amazing 1133 roasts, the EURO AYCR Event is finally over. The event was never short of hick-ups but it was still successful, and the undisputed winner is R3ptile! Congratulations!

Oh, I can already see my audience diminishing in front of my eyes now that the winner has been announced and the long, drawn-out commentary of the event begins.

(So come back, please.)

Technically, the event lasted for 7 rounds, but scores have only been kept for 6 rounds, the reason which will be explained later.

The event started well, with loads of people joining CelL's pre-game server (and he hosted Battle 1, of all levels).

30 mins later, the real AYCR server was up, with Toasted Territory as the first level, and I joined just in time, because the server was going to be full for many rounds to come. However, after about 15 minutes of playing, CelL's server crashed. Few people knew what happened, but Ragnarok wrote that he saw laser bolts flashing across his screen. And adding to that, the listservers temporarily went down the moment everyone crashed, delaying the event for many minutes. Most people already had 15+ roasts, and they felt it was a bit unfair to start all over. Making matters EVEN worse, when the game was finally won, someone instantly hit fire and the next level was loaded, which gave no time for anyone to take a screenshot. That's the first round down the drain....

Round 2 was in e-Line Circuits, and it went smoothly. I had some interesting experiences here and a lot of fun, but Sasik won this one.

Round 3, SandStrand O'Hazes, was chaos the likes of which I have only seen a dozen times before. All we did was jump, run, shoot, jump run, shoot, shoot aimlessly, shoot some more, and repeat. There were a lot of crates and barrels, which caused a lot of lag, but the server was still playable (with me getting 21 roasts). That was 4 roasts short of Ragnarok, who won that round.

. was played in round 4. I can't really remember all the complaints and arguing about scores and lag in all rounds, so far, because they were mostly minor. By this time, a lot of people left, and some new ones joined in, although the event was never to have more than 13 people again. Many people (including me) didn't do all that well here, which paved the way for a second Ragnarok victory.

The last level which CelL hosted was E. Prime. I think it was the one requiring most skills to win, because people didn't just hammer the fire key (well, not exclusively :-P). E. Prime power-up and electroblaster spots can get a bit busy with so many people, but camping at the RF tower and near the tower carrot was pretty fun (hooray for Jazz!). The winner of this round was Gr33n Pl4nt.

Round 6 was hosted by me. I asked Ragnarok whether he should host, but he chose me instead. Apologies goes to all the 10 poor souls who had to endure my server's lag (I was suprised I didn't kick anyone because everyone hated my server). Some had CTOs, and their scores were partially recovered, which is really unfortunate. Sasik won this game, but the immense lag (and I still only got 7 roasts) made round 6 a bit of a turn-off, despite Garden Brawl being hosted.

The last round, in What is this? was hosted by Ragnarok (by popular demand, of course). I wasn't there, because I had to go, but R3ptile was the winner.

I'd like to thank everyone who participated for (adequately :-D) good behaviour and for making the Euro AYCR event so enjoyable.

Is this news post long enough for you?

EDIT: I would also like to remind CelL and Rag to post their own comments. Come on, eat me! :-P Er..I mean beat.

Okay, this is what Rag says:

It was a great event though it was a bit stupid how some of the levels were just a big level with a huge campspot with like 15 players at that one place. I won two rounds, a bit lucky I was. But AYCR is all about camping and such. You have to just shoot like an ammo freak and hope to kill. Its great fun. Not much tactic unless its a big level.

Some people complained about lag or bad service or non-respawning things, or powerups that they couldnt find. Think about it, half of us didnt know either. Its not so easy to do an event. But the point is we had fun. My screenshot didnt work for : "What is this?" but I remember the places and scores. It was fun, but I do hope everyone else agrees.

CelL, your go. *Runs*

Euro Opening Event - July 12, 2005 - 4:38 PM
In case there was any confusion on this matter (there were some problems with setting the time, etc), the Euro opening event will be held tomorow at 8 PM GMT +1.

The gametype will be Ctf, and the levels will be the same as the ones for the American event.

[EDIT] The serverlists seem to be down at the moment, so you'll have to join by IP 82.157.0.246. The event will go up in about 5 minutes.

[And now for EvilMike's stupid ramblings]
It was a good event. Much better than expected. I'd like to thank everyone who partcipated and helped to make everything go well.

If you haven't done so already, I highly advice everyone to read the information page to learn of the recent improvements to the JDC system. I've already pointed out the changes elsewhere, but I'll summarize again what makes this season different.

Win Factor: When you win a duel, it will be counted more positively to your roast:fall score. So if you do 2 duels, one being 5-4 and the other being 4-5, the 5-4 duel will count more towards your score.

Player Quality: We are now using a modification of the system from season 8 and before. In other words it is based off of win:loss. The difference is that it is greatly improved, essencially being much more "fair". The most important change is that players who haven't done many duels will have null quality instead of 0%, meaning you can duel them without having your score screwed up. (note that quality only becomes relevant past round 1, since everyone has null quality at the start!)

The "quality exponent" that you see there simply modifies the number each player has for opponent quality. The lower the quality exponent is, the higher most people's opponent quality will be. Basically, if someones opponent quality would normally be 50%, and the exponent is 0.5, then their actual opponent quality would be 50% to the power of 0.5 (roughly 70%). (Math Note: x^.5 is the same as sqrt(x) for all things done on JDC.)

Finally, the "Player confidence" scoring is a bit different. The way it is now, is you have to do 8 duels to get 100% of your points. But don't worry, because you only have to do 4 to get 80%. This means you don't have to do many duels to get most of your points, but you are encouraged to do more to get that extra 20%.

Oh, and I invite anyone who uses IRC to come to #jdc on quakenet. I'm usually there, and will be willing to help you out with anything you need.

Season 10 begins in less than 24 hours. - July 11, 2005 - 12:05 PM
Season 10 of JDC will be starting after the event tomorrow. The time for the event is 4:00 PST, 7:00 EST.Try to get there early, the server may fill up fast.

A few things you should note are that we have changed scoring a bit, and updated the information page to show just what we've changed. I highly reccomend that everyone reads that, because the entire thing was rewritten and contains a lot of vital information. The biggest change is to player quality, which now works more like what was used in season 8, but with a few improvements to make things more "fair".

Note that this season will last only five rounds, and each one is only a week long. This will make for a fairly short season. Do not worry though, because season 11 will follow shortly after this one.

The european version of the opening event will be on wednesday. The exact time posted seems to be a bit strange, maybe cell could come and clarify it for us.

Testing on the site is almost completely done. Everything is finished aside from the player quality page, and thankfully everything seems to be working fine.

Also, stop asking FQuist about JDC stuff. People keep bugging the poor guy about JDC when he doesn't even do anything here. You are driving him towards a nervous breakdown. :( If you want to make up for the pain you've caused go here and help out.

Opening event posted - July 8, 2005 - 7:22 AM
I have posted the details of the opening event. I suggest you download the zip file located here. Once we find a good european host, the euro opening event will hopefully be posted.

[edit] CelL says: the time for the Euro opening event has been posted. Come one, come all, or something.

Season 10 is still scheduled to begin on the 11th. Once it starts, all of the current scores will be cleared. The ones you see now are only there for testing purposes.

The season will begin on the 11th. - July 2, 2005 - 12:50 AM
In the meantime, anything you see on the site is probably an effect of us testing the system to make sure it works. Don't be scared if you happen to see yourself in duels you never played. All that means is your name happened to be at the top of the list.
