EvilMike adds: This season wasn't quite as good as season 10, though lower activity was expected. I would, however, like to talk about some unexpected incidents that occured during this season.
As many of you know, a number of JDC users were accused of cheating in this season. There is also some pretty good evidence to support those accusations. Because the reported incidents of cheating occured near the beginning of the season, but we only heard about them near the end, we decided to simply let the season go on and see if anything more occured.
We didn't feel that it would be appropriate to ban these users, for a variety of reasons I will not get into. I must say though, that we (the administration) are quite disappointed about what happened. We've dealt with cheaters before, but never had to deal with respected users being accused of that.
Why does this have to happen? In the future, I suppose we could just put a stop to it by closely monitoring all users and having harsh penalties to punish cheating, but does it really have to come to that? This is a computer game. Winning in JDC should not be so important to you that you have to resort to cheating.
This goes to everyone. JDC is supposed to be for fun. If you play for any reason other than your own personal enjoyment, you need to find something better to do. Competition is fine, but obsession is not. Obsessing over winning only makes you, and other people miserable. Consider this next time you log in to play, and please, don't let this happen again. |

Awards Delayed - October 8, 2005 - 3:34 AM
|
 |
It just happens that my laptop's motherboard was fried a couple of days ago; and on there I have the methods for calculating the awards. It's going to be about 2 weeks before I get my machine back and I'll be able to get it done then.
Sorry for the delay. |

Last day of season 5 - October 2, 2005 - 6:44 PM
|
 |
This is your last day to get any dueling done in season 5. I will be turning off the season in about 12 hours.
The american closing event has been posted. Sorry for making it be on monday, but it's the best I can do. Read the event listings page for more information.
Update: No one came to the event. I guess it was an inconvenient time. That's too bad, I had a lot planned. This officially marks the end of season 11. Awards and stuff will be done later when we have time or feel like it. |

Ta-da! Closing Events! (Fanfare, elephants and nubile dancers not included!) - October 1, 2005 - 9:31 PM
|
 |
The time for the European closing event has been posted, as well as a rather short description. Yes, with the agreement of all other admins/officials, the Euro closing event will involve mainly Officials vs Competitors levels and, probably, the North American event as well.
This hasn't been mentioned before, but the Euro event starts earlier than usual (ironically, the old times were slightly European-unfriendly) so hopefully, the event will finish way before anyone's bedtime. :-)
So, basically, I would like to remind all officials hosting events during 'European' times to, from now on, set times no later than 7pm GMT.
Remember that everyone is asked to only attend one event and they will either be asked to leave the server or get no points for one of the events if they do two. Officials, on the other hand, are encouraged to play in both events, even though they will only receive points for one of them, since I'd like as many officials as possible to join the OvC (however, if they plan on playing in both events, they should tell me which event points I should keep).
There will be 7 levels in total (we will play the assault level twice), 5 for OvC, and 2 AYCRs, the roast limit being set to the number of players present.
For further information concerning the event, consult the Event Listings page. |

Round 5 - September 26, 2005 - 11:28 PM
|
 |
| I was dumb and forgot to change the round last night, so round 5 has started a bit late. Anyway, since this is the final round it is worth a bit more. Keep an eye open for when the final events will be scheduled, they will be worth extra points. |

JDC Jailbreak event postponed - September 25, 2005 - 2:06 PM
|
 |
You may not have noticed it, but this should get your attention: the jailbreak event has been postponed to 4.30pm GDT (fortunately, that's only a difference of half an hour). I have uploaded a different levelpack, because I wanted to play new levels, so please download that (in the last event I hosted, many people failed to do so, and you can imagine what the consequences were).
EvilMike adds: I'm not sure how the jailbreak event went, but the CTF event scheduled for today was cancelled. For whatever reason, no one came. Strange considering that in previous seasons an event scheduled on the weekend at that time would get full servers. Whatever. |

Two events coming up - September 25, 2005 - 1:19 AM
|
 |
Just a reminder, there will be two events on Sunday. You are welcome to come to both, although because of the times they are scheduled that might be a bit difficult. As always, details are on this page.
I also suggest that you click the download links on that page, if available. Doing so will greatly reduce lag in the server. |

Round 4 has begun - September 19, 2005 - 7:24 AM
|
 |
Round 3 was rather uneventful, but things have at least been moving along smoothly. For this round I have increased opponent quality from 75 points to 100 points. Take this into consideration when chosing your opponents: starting now 40% of your score will be based entirely off of who you duel.
If any european officials feel like hosting an event sometime soon, feel free to do so. We haven't had one for a while. |

How eventful - September 19, 2005 - 12:12 AM
|
 |
| Todays event had a whooping total of 7 players. While it's nice to have smaller events once and a while, I didn't expect it would be THAT small. I guess in the future I'm going to try posting news about events more often. |

Round 3 - September 12, 2005 - 7:26 AM
|
 |
Round 3 has begun. I noticed in round 2 that a number of people were submitting large quantities of duels in spans of a few minutes. In the future, I ask that people instead submit duels immediately after they are finished, even if you plan on doing more than one duel. Submitting comments also helps. This is important because it keeps duels authentic and avoids suspicion.
WR's edit: Please also make sure to contact officials after every spontaneous event (ESPECIALLY 3v3s). If events are submitted the day they are played, less confusion will arise from old events added on the same day as new ones, which WILL lead to officials thinking people have done multiple 3v3s in one day. |

2on1 games and clone accounts - September 8, 2005 - 12:15 PM
|
 |
| It appears that one or two duelists have created clone accounts of themselves, in order for them to safely play 2v1 games (which can actually be good for training and getting you to play in challenging situations). However, JDC is mainly about duels and proper 2v2s, and creating your own game types and then submitting them with a clone account is not acceptable. From now on, all 2v1 games will be deleted, and any clone accounts will be suspended. |

Round 2 - September 5, 2005 - 6:15 AM
|
 |
Round 2 has started. By the looks of it, everything went over OK and there were no unexpected score changes (a problem which occured last season). If you see any problems however, please report them.
In the near future, I plan on hosting a one day tournament event. Unfortunately I lack a good method of making a tournament chart, other than simply drawing on in MS paint or something. If anone has a good method, tell me. |

Event stuff - September 3, 2005 - 12:33 AM
|
 |
I have uploaded all of the levels and tilesets that might be used in tomorrows event. The download link should be visible now in the event sidepanel, so please get it now so we won't have to deal with download lag.
I would also like to clarify some things about events which are hosted multiple times, (usually one western and one euro). I will be updating the information page to explain this, but I feel I should post it here first.
As the JDC rules state, you may only attend an event once. For example, if you get points for the western event, you cannot get points for the euro event. Occasionally the host will still allow you to play in both, but in most cases your score will be 0 for the second one you play in.
In some cases when you play in both events, you can have your score for the first one set to 0 so you may recieve points for the second one. This MUST be arranged before the second event starts, however, and a good reason must be given. This means you can't do this just because you played in the whole event but got a bad score.
To sum this all up, if you play in a western and euro event, and the euro event is hosted after the western one, you will get 0 points for the euro event. If you want to get points for the euro event, contact the host of the western one and ask for your score to be set to 0. You WILL need a good reason for this though, and it MUST be done before the euro event. And even then it still might not happen.
Also note that if you aren't getting points for an event, the host may ask you to leave if the server is full in order to make room for other players.
Sorry if this is confusing, I typed it up in a hurry. If you have any questions please post a comment.

Euro JDC Opening Event over - August 30, 2005 - 8:37 PM
|
 |
Another successful event has ended, and the officials have done their best to ensure that everyone got the right amount of points. We do have a winner, closely followed by Chiyu at 24 points: Enigma!
Not all levels were popular (Blur's double bridge assault confused many) but the assasination games were quite entertaining, and I had fun just running amok in the enemy's base and hunting Superjazz down. >) Yesterday's event showed that it's not always such a good idea to play assault games without planning to do it from the very start.
R3ptile also got banned for the duration of the event during the second assasination game (but was allowed to play in the final round anyway). The reasons for his banning are unknown to me, but let this be an example to everyone participating in events: listen to the officials.
Congratulations to Enigma, and well done to everyone who participated, except me, who missed 2 rounds as usual. :-P
Mean update by EvilMike: Several people who participated in the western opening event also particpated in the euro one. I am in the process of setting their scores for the euro event (which took place after the western one) to 0. Officials, please check for this before hosting events. Please note that this is stated in the jdc rules: "Some of the larger events are hosted more than once so more than 16 players can get a chance to play. The separate hostings are usually done on different days. Many times one will be hosted in north america and one in europe, although this doesn't have to be the case. For events like this, you may only receive points for one of them. This means if you play in a north american event, you may not play in the european equivilant, or any other event identical to it. There are no exceptions to this." |

New rules regarding spontaneous events, and a new upload! - August 30, 2005 - 9:55 AM
|
 |
As you all know, it can be tricky to join spontaneous events in mid-game (XvX games not counted) because of varying passwords, different server names, the fact that they are spontaneous, etc. Ragnarok will continue to host his spontaneous events, but he will still list them slightly in advance so that everyone can join (remember that spontaneous events, with the exception of XvX games, are still supposed to be public).
The new rules are:
1. A default password for all non-XvX spontaneous events: SUPER GOOD.
2. The topic on the JDC irc channel (#JDC on QuakeNet) will be changed to notify duelists about spontaneous events, so make sure to check it regularly.
3. All official JDC events, with the exception of XvX games, must include 'JDC' in the server name.
---
Now for the fun stuff. :-)
I've made a .bat file, which will automatically run all of the useful security programs/JJ2 tools needed to run JJ2 safely (this is mainly for officials, but there's no reason everyone can benefit). The .bat file, along with a lot of the tools/security programs, are in the start all.zip, here.
You can add/remove your own programs by just editing the .bat file and, once finished, you won't ever have to seek and start 5 programs just to play JJ2 properly. |

Season 11 now active - August 29, 2005 - 4:24 AM
|
 |
JDC Season 11 has officially started, so you may begin dueling. The season will last for five rounds, and since this season is close to the previous one you do not have to log in to activate your account.
There are a few noteworthy changes for this season.
- Player confidence is different now. Instead of having to duel so many times to get full points, you have to have a certain amount of unique duels. If you duel someone you haven't dueled yet in the current round, that is a unique duel. All 2vs2s also count as unique duels. This means you can't duel the same person 10 times and be the top ranked player for the current round. It also means it is a bit harder to get full confidence, so to compensate we have lowered it to 5 duels instead of 8.
- We now have expanded personal rankings pages for all users. On these pages you can see all duels and events the user has participated in, along with the usual info. Simply click on someones name and then click "Expand" at the bottom of their page in the side box. You can also click their name at the top of the box.
- The event listings page and the Next Event sidepanel have been changed slightly. If an official wishes to, they may supply a URL to whatever level pack is required for the event. This makes it easy to find all the necessary downloads.
- We have a new logo, created by Eagle.
- Ragnarok is actually going to post his events ahead of time on the event listings this season.
As you can see, improvements all around. This looks like it will be a good season, so good luck to everyone. Be sure to attend the opening event on monday as well, or if you miss that, the euro event on tuesday. |

JDC Season 11 - August 25, 2005 - 1:08 AM
|
 |
The next season of JDC is scheduled to start on the 29th. A few minor changes have been made, but for the most part things will be the same as last season. I am just making this news post so I can write down a date for jdc to start again.
JDC Season 11 will be starting in a few hours. For now please disregard the scores you see here. It is for testing purposes only.
