Euro Closing Event! - July 29, 2006 - 6:57 PM
The last euro event of this JDC is about to start in about 30 minutes. Go download the levelpack and be there!

More information and download on the Event Listing page.

Veg and I hope to see you there :)

Vegito adds:
The euro JDC ending event is now over. It was a very good event. No people were really complaining about lag at all, or about the level choice. I enjoyed this event a lot myself, I hope you all did too. Congratulations to DarkSonic for winning this last Euro event! Raw scores are uploaded now too.

(Note: DarkSonic became second instead of Quickz now, because I made a fault in adding the Spontaneous OvC scores. ~ Veg)

On behalf of all the European, and supposedly also the American, officials, I would like to thank all of you for participating in this edition of Jazz Duelist's Challenge. And see you next year ofcourse ;)

Euro AYCR + Assasination - July 2, 2006 - 3:37 PM
I think I have to make at least one news post every season so I don't look too dead...

Yet another AYCR event was played out successfully today in season 10's AYCR pack, with its many familiar (and perhaps comforting) quirks and aspects like huge multi kills, and zones of death taking up no more than a quarter of the total level area. SandStrand O'Hazes was an unfamiliar (and perhaps worrying) exception to this. Not paying attention to much in the game, I quickly faded away and couldn't get my roast count to anything above 16. Right, there's not much more to say about the AYCR. Or do you want me to describe the gruesome killings over and over again? The characters only have one death animation...

To finish off the event, we played one round of assasination in Mutiny. The level was decided by chat spamming the server, the most democratic form of voting possible from within JJ2. R3p and I were pitted against each other; our kingdoms, that is. R3p was quickly brought down within the first 10 seconds of the game, giving blue team an early headstart. My gameticks were also counted, however, and soon the score was equal. Having the bases cleared of enemy players, the pace of both teams slowed down. I would spend several minutes without seeing a single red player, while R3p kept getting killed. Their defence was horrible, their attackers few, and we felt within victory as the score became 4-1 in our favour. Unfortunately, when red team started getting offensive, they made a small comeback, roasting me twice while R3p managed to hold us at bay. We were still ahead though, and soon won 5-3.

Congratulations to Sperry for winning this one and a half hour event! Superjazz has second place and the runner-runner up is R3ptile.

Last but not least, there were no complaints about latency or 3hks, nope...

Weekend events posted - July 1, 2006 - 4:39 AM
The weekend events have been posted on the event listings page. The North American timezone event will be on Saturday, and the European one will be on Sunday.

You might notice that Saturday's event was posted on a bit of a short notice. I apologize for that, but hopefully it won't matter too much.

Both events will be AYCR. I might throw in some other gametype too at the end, maybe instagib.

[UPDATE]
I've delayed the event for an hour due to problems. Oh no!!!!

Verify a 2 on 2 system-bug. - June 26, 2006 - 1:23 PM
Edit: Try not to submit any 2 on 2s, except for when ALL 4 PLAYERS verify it within 5 minutes. Trying to get the vertification list empty.

There is a bug in the 2 on 2 system at the moment. Fixing it will take time, since none of the Admins are online.
Don't worry though, its only a layout bug. Even if you verify the "weird 2 on 2", every player will get its points. (The players which are submitted in the original 2 on 2, that is.)
You can still play 2 on 2's and submit/verify them safely. Its just that it looks weird in the vertification system.

[Update]
Something glitched and caused a 2on2 to be added to the verification system this morning; it caused the others to then display incorrectly but the data was all correct.
This sort of thing *shouldn't* happen -- probably the sort of thing that happens say, once every few years if I'm right about what went wrong.

Round 4 - June 25, 2006 - 8:45 AM

Keep your eye out for the euro event in a few hours.

This is a short news post.

Events done, round ends soon - June 17, 2006 - 11:23 PM
The round 2 main events have finished. The euro one didn't get many players (possibly due to short notice, world cup game and the fact that the american event which I hosted occured only a few hours later), but the one I hosted had a reasonable amount of people. Still not as many as expected though. There were some problems with crashing (I think someone was attacking the server) but after I switched to a neoAC compatable gametype things went fine.

As a reminder, the round will end tonight at midnight PST, which is a bit more than 8 hours or so from now. When the round changes, all unverified duels will be deleted.

Update: Aaaaaand round 3 has begun. Same settings as round 2.

Round 2 main events. - June 17, 2006 - 1:55 AM
The European has been cancelled because of too less players. It wasn't worth hosting anymore. Assassination would have taken too long with the amount of players which were in the server. Sad. This probably happened because of that the American event was hosted only 3 hours later. A lot of people said they would join that event. Hopefully this will be solved next week.

For the American event, this will be LRS. This event will also be worth 25 points if there are enough people. Note that this event is hosted earlier than most of the American events.

A note on gametypes - June 15, 2006 - 8:41 AM
I have noticed that a couple of duels now have been in some rather unique gametypes. Currently I've been letting them stay, but I have decided now not to allow them further.

The JDC rules state that duels can only be battle or CTF, and likewise 2 on 2's can only be Team Battle or CTF. The reason for this is simply because other gametypes have different scoring dynamics, which the system really isn't meant to take. One way to think of it is this way: in some gametypes points are scored very quickly (such as bank robbery), but in other gametypes, maybe only one point is scored per game. It's because of these differences that battle and CTF are the only allowed gametypes.

Duels which are already in the database will be left as-is, but new duels in disallowed gametypes will be deleted. Events, as always, can be any gametype.

Round 2 begins - June 11, 2006 - 8:06 AM
The second round of season 12 has begun. Since round 1 is over, opponent quality now figures into the equasion. 100 points will be given based entirely on who you duel. That's a third of the score for this round. Keep this in mind.

I also tweaked some of the scoring, but nothing major has changed.

Round 1 ends soon - June 10, 2006 - 9:27 PM
Originally I was planning on starting Round 2 at the beginning of today, but something came up. Round 2 will now begin at around midnight PST, tonight.

As a reminder, all unverified duels from round 1 will be deleted when the round changes. Make sure they are verified before then.

Some events - June 8, 2006 - 10:43 AM
I've posted the listing for the main event on Saturday, which will mark the beginning of Round 2. It should be worth 25 points, provided enough people come. I have not decided upon a gametype for it yet.

I have also posted a listing for another event, which is to take place today. It's not as important as the Saturday event, but I just felt like posting it here anyway.

Edit: European event over. It was quite a mess in the last 4 rounds. I didn't expect to do a TB part in the end, but almost everyone said "yes" to TB. That pretty much meant saying "yes" to a mess. But overall the event was okay. There were many people who participated. Congratz Superjazz for winning this event.

In addition, I would like to remind everyone that it is important to check the email address you associate with your jdc account, at least every couple of days. I say this because email is the main way the JDC admins contact users. If you've changed your email address recently, please update your contact information. Chances are we will never have to email you, but occasionally we like to contact users.

Season 12 has begun - June 4, 2006 - 12:16 AM
You can now add duels and 2vs2s to JDC, so start dueling! Also, the European event finished and was a success, with the scores now added to the database.

The North American opening event is coming in a few hours, be sure to attend that if you missed the european one.

Update: Scores for both events are now up. See the events section on the sidepanel, or for a more detailed view of the scores, see the raw data here.

Edit: (Note: only for the Euro event)
Apperently, some things have been messed up while adding the raw scores. The scores have been changed. Also, I have uploaded the fixed raw scores on the site. You are able to see the changes in the scores by just looking at the differences between the fixed, and the first version(s). Thank you, Jerry, for telling this.

Website is now open - June 1, 2006 - 7:51 AM
The season will begin this Saturday. The date and time for the opening event is set, with the time for the euro event to be added soon. Make sure you log in so your account is considered active.

If you're new to JDC, I recommend you check out the information page.

If you have forgotten your password, please contact me and I'll give you a new one. You can find me either by email (evilmike@gmail.com), or by private messaging me on the JCF or J2O.

Edit: And now the euro opening event is listed too. ~Grytolle

Edit 2: I've changed the time set for the western opening event. It's still after the euro event, but it's later now. Check the new time here. -Mike

Edit 3: The european event is moved 1 hour forward, so people can be done with their dinners.

Take note that both the euro and western opening events are on the same day. As in previous seasons, you may only attend one. I highly reccomend you make your choice based on what is convenient for you. Also, if the first event is overcrowded, the second one will probably not be as bad so you could consider going to it instead.
