Closing Event Coming... done. - January 27, 2008 - 9:39 PM
Vegito: So the event has been finishited now. My personal believe was that this event was a really, really good event exept for maybe the last round *COUGH* COOBA *COUGH* ehem. ;)

Also I'd like to congratulate SJ for winning this JDC. I think this season turned out to be a great one, a really active one. I'm happy that so many players got to play several rounds, and that events almost always had 14 players in them every round again. Thx all, and cya next season(!).

Btw, I claimed SJ's newspost.

Also I love how this newspost was posted at 29 November 1969 at 23:00. We're BACK TO THE .. PAST?

No more duels! - January 26, 2008 - 8:23 AM
Round 6 has ended, marking the end of dueling for season 14. The season is not quite over yet, as there will still be two more events, taking place this weekend.

I wonder who will be the winner of this season!!!

Gambling is dangerous - January 13, 2008 - 9:21 PM
The pit fight event today was fairly successful. It was short, but managed to be fairly successful. There were some weird lag problems though.

The highest score was 20 points. The lowest score was negative 30. I hope you have learned a valuable lesson today.

I hope to do another one of these events before the end of the season. Before I do that though, I would like to have some sort of better way of recording bets. Going through a chatlog is pretty annoying.

NO I CAN'T SEND "THE NEW CARROTADE" BECAUSE IT'S A BETA. UNDERSTOOD? >: [
It is only for JDC officials and betatesters so far. It will come out sooner or later. That's all information I can give you >: [
And no, don't bother asking other officials(!) or you make me sad ;-(

I knew this was gonna happen somehow D= lol.

Round 4 - January 5, 2008 - 8:49 AM
The fourth round has started. Same settings as round 3. The season will probably continue until round 6, just like last season.

The only thing of note which I have to say is that there was an unusual amount of unverified 2 on 2's this round. When the round changes, all unverified duels and 2 on 2's which are older than a few days are deleted. I think I deleted at least 10 in all this round change, which is more than twice the normal amount. Remember to verify your duels, and take care to do it before the end of the round.

One Day Tournament - December 29, 2007 - 11:00 PM
There hasn't been an event with double servers for several JDC seasons. Today an overall of 25 people played in the Tournament, that were nicely split into two servers. So, in fact those servers ran their own tournament, giving everyone who wanted to play a chance. Grytolle hosted the Tournament #1 and moderated the tournament tree there, as well Rag held the Tournament #2. For specific people Rag's server seemed to be a bad idea, as it lagged them too much to make them receive their death. That quite much put me and Rag to make hard decicions, who would advance with such questionable results. While one was killed in the spectator's screen, that person still remained the arena with 1 or more health in his/her own. Once less lagged people made it to the semi-finals, it went off smoothly.

However I heard the tournament didn't begin very well. I arrived late for my own event, and the level to be used in Tournament #1 was bugged somehow.

After both finals had been played, we decided to give a few additional rounds of different game types. For those who performed badly in the tournament, it gave the chance to catch up a little more points.

Tournament #1 Winner: Riccardo
Tournament #2 Winner: Enigma

Enigma won the most points. 29 in overall. Special congratulations for that.

Round 3 - December 29, 2007 - 7:28 AM
The third round has begun. The settings are exactly the same as they were in round 2. I had to delete a few duels in round 2 which stood out as suspicious, and I apologise if I deleted one of yours. However, this can be prevented if you follow the guidelines I posted last week. The main thing I check for is when you submit your duels: submit them as soon as possible after they are completed (verify them whenever you want) and that way it's easy to tell they are legitimate. Writing comments also helps a great deal, especially when you submit several duels that look the same.

Pestilence/CTF event scores - December 25, 2007 - 11:02 PM
update: the scores are now uploaded. Congratulations to Birdie who won the event. Blah blah.

The scores for the Pestilence/CTF event are currently experiencing a little logistical trouble. Look forward to them in a few hours (next morning for europeans >O). Anyway, currently I can tell you that Robee won the Pestilence part with 14 points. Grats!

And now about the event. In my opinion, it didn't go as well as I personally anticipated, due to the hosting tool being a little glitched (accurately, it crashed when the last survivor turned into a zombie). Due to the constant crashing and the fact that the event somewhat just flew through time, the participants became somewhat unsatisfied in the end and decided to play a few rounds of Capture the Flag. As far as I've heard, the CTF part of the event went a little better than Pestilence.

To compensate this somewhat failed event, I encourage you to join the next big event, which I plan to be held somewhere this weekend. Maybe Sunday, or maybe New Year's Eve. We'll see.

Spontaneous Events - December 23, 2007 - 4:14 AM
There have been a few complaints regarding spontaneous events, so I am making this news post to address that.

To start off, I will say this: there will be no restrictions placed on spontaneous events, aside from the already existing ones regarding how many points you can get per day for small events.

However, I strongly advise officials to post event listings ahead of time whenever possible. Even if the listing goes up only an hour before the event, it's better than nothing. This isn't always possible, since in a lot of cases these events start off as a 3vs3 and then turn into some huge ctf game after a lot of people decide they want to play. But for cases when it is possible to post the listing ahead of time, please do so.

Also note that small events, which as a rule of thumb means anything with 8 players (4vs4) or less, should usually be worth no more than 5 points. Exceptions can be made if the event lasts longer than most events with that number of players do, or if it's planned in advance but not many people turn up. I know the information page says it a bit differently, but that part of it is somewhat outdated.

Anyway, I hope this will disspell some of the complaints we have been receiving, and correct whatever problems there may be. I have always said that the more events there are the better the season is, but it's also a good thing when they are listed ahead of time as much as possible.

Bobby adds: If the spontaneous event has a password it should be posted on the JDC website either in a temporary newspost or as an event.

Event scores change - December 22, 2007 - 1:02 PM
Some of you may notice that the scores from yesterday's event (not the spontaneous one) have changed. This is because I made a mistake with weighing the scores earlier, which caused the Flag Run scores cause a much bigger impact on the overall score than it should. Due to the score change, most people got their points somewhat boosted, but it's nothing drastic anyway.

Sorry for any inconvenience, and enjoy your round 2.

Round 2 begins - December 22, 2007 - 7:31 AM
Congratulations to grytolle for winning round 1. The season has been good so far, with no major complaints or problems to speak of. A few of the events had technical problems, but it's not like that never happens.

Let's hope the rest of the season is just as good!

Regarding the scoring changes we mentioned earlier, they haven't been implemented as of right now, so don't scratch your heads wondering what we were talking about. It will be put in soon, so if you see your scores change a bit that's why.

The intended change is to make it so your lowest scoring round is dropped from your overall score (you still keep event points though). The rationale behind this is to make jdc more fair, by not penalizing people who for whatever reason miss around, but still reward people who play in all of them.

There is something I also want to mention regarding how you submit duels. I have noticed a few cases where duels have been submitted one after another by the same person, and in a few cases, multiple duels in the same minute. The JDC rules state that you should submit duels right after each one is played, and not submit a whole string at once. You can verify them whenever you want, but when it comes to submitting its important to take care. This also applies to 2vs2's to a lesser degree. The reason for this rule is to help prevent cheating: it's a lot easier for me to spot what's fake and what isn't when people follow this.

I have been lenient in round 1, but starting with round 2 the rules will be enforced a bit more strictly. There's no reason to worry a whole lot: the worst that can happen is for a few offending duels to be deleted. Still, no one likes for that to happen.

Round 1 closing event. - December 21, 2007 - 9:11 PM
[Scores are now uploaded. ~cooba]

Yes! Not Round 2 starting event!

The scores are going to be uploaded soon!! I put that as a first sentence for the ones who really hate reading.!

Anyways, the event can be called successful I believe. Cooba wanted to try a totally new gametype for JDC (Flag Run) and Jail Break, which had been changed quite a lot thanks to BlurredD's tools. A lot of players got several crashes especially during the JB rounds. If someone iced the spring to free players, some of these players would crash usually.

Also when I'd change the level 2 players would crash. Anyways, despite those crashes we could keep teams pretty much straight, and everything went pretty well.

Also the remote admin option made the event a lot easier espescially for me. Cooba, Hitch or Birdie would do something before me usually. I didn't have much work thanks to that. The work a server gets during an event basically gets split between 4 officials or something. :)

And last but not least!! There weren't many lag complains!! :p

I thank you all for participating, and hope to see you in the next weeks event.

cooba adds: Definitely a good event. Thanks for coming, everyone. This was the first JDC event I organised and I have to say I'm fairly proud with how it turned out. The first few JailBreak rounds were a bit lacking in the fun factor, but hopefully the last JB level (long live Security Breach) and the Flag Run part made up for it. The scores are now available, so go see yourself. Bonus points if you guess who won the event.

Opening Event over - December 15, 2007 - 10:28 PM
Source: RabbitJournal

The JDC 14 opening event is now over, after about two and a half hours of more or less intense team play. Thanks to everyone who joined, and congratulations to Superjazz for winning the event (click here for the rest of the scores, or just check the event list). The event did face several problems, especially at the start, but generally it went fairly smoothly. Sorry for any inconvenience, and to the ones who didn't make it into the server: there's always next year more events ;)

A friendly reminder! - December 11, 2007 - 1:47 AM
We're still setting up the season, so at the moment the site is still set to season 13. As a reminder, when the system switches to season 14, all user accounts will be set to inactive status. To be counted as an active user in season 14, you must log in after the site changes. This will allow your name to show up in the dropdown menus for submitting duels and 2vs2s. It will also make it easier for officials to give you points in events.

News will be posted on JDC and J2O when everything is ready.

As a final note, if you have forgotten your password, just message me and I'll give you a new one. The best way to reach me is to use the private message system on either J2O or the JCF, but if you don't have an account on either for some reason... get one.

Seriously I'm not going to give you my email address. >:(

JDC 14 - December 9, 2007 - 12:05 PM
Yes, JDC Season 14 starts in less than a week. 12/15 to be exact. This season we will be trying a few new concepts. Further information about this from admins should follow soon.

Another interesting competition for the Jazz Duellist Championship will begin with the Opening Event on Saturday 15th. The game modes that will probably be played will be TeamBattle and Capture The Flag. Also, here you go with a level pack for the event.
