This isn’t the most Jazz-related story we’ve ever posted, but it’s about Epic Games and their future development, so it’s at least Jazz-adjacent. It looks like Epic will no longer be making the Gears of Wars series after selling it to Microsoft. Presumably this affords them more resources for working on Fortnite and their unannounced PC-exclusive project.

(Here’s what CliffyB thinks, if you’re curious.)

I see no negative side-effects to any of this. :)

CliffyB is looking to the future as always, Epic have been paid a load of money, and Microsoft are now going to be making the GoW games, so good news all-round. :D

… Well, I guess for us(As a Jazz fansite) it’s kind of neutral(Like this comment) unless you really overthink it.

“until you give people something new to focus on they will obsess about the past”

That quotation strikes me. But, coming to think of, he’s damn right. Also, explains why he hate Jazz Jackrabbit and left Epic.

Epic’s in some big money trouble, I’d gather.

“Also, explains why he hate Jazz Jackrabbit and left Epic.”

He doesn’t hate Jazz Jackrabbit, stop making CliffyB the villain

Roobar on 28 Jan 2014 at 16:09

“I never really cared to make another, to be honest.” That’s what he said. Well, he may not really hate it, but since he don’t even care about his creation and don’t want ever to make something with it, that can be considered even worse.

Stijn on 28 Jan 2014 at 21:38

“I don’t care to make another“ isn’t the same as “I don’t care”… It just means he didn’t feel like making another game in the series.

There’s tons of games that have no sequel, or game series that ended… do you think the developers of those don’t care about their earlier creations any more?

I think now is a good time to point out the fact that when CliffyB would take people on tours around the Epic Games offices(When he still worked there), if the tour included the wall of fame, he would always point out Jazz(That’s what I’m told anyway), so he doesn’t dislike Jazz by any means, he — to reiterate what Stijn said — just wants to move on.

It’s also in the blog post that was linked in this news article: he’s looking to the future. As always indeed :p

Nice that Epic now has plenty of time to put Jazz on digital download services.

‘sides, it’s no longer even in Cliff’s hands to make any possible new JJ games, so it really doesn’t matter much if he’d want it or not…

and to this day I haven’t played any Gears of War for even a split second. so that’s all I can say

Slaz on 29 Jan 2014 at 17:42

I’ve actually played countless hours of the Gears of War games on Xbox Live, guess I just like a lot of game genres.

In one day I can go from Dodonpachi, to Gears of War, and end it with Jazz Jackrabbit.

Oh and by the way, if you want to see proof of Jazz (and even Jazz2) being famed by Cliff & friends at Epic’s HQ, years ago I once posted a link to an interesting studio tour video in an overlooked JCF thread.
