CliffyB to do Reddit "AMA" on Friday

Update: It’s now over. Nothing new was learned.

This Friday, at 1:30 pm EST, Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski (CliffyB, design/artwork/co-producer/adviser on various Jazz games) will be going on Reddit to do an “Ask Me Anything” session. A random participant will win a signed weapon from a dudebro game, but you’re really just reading this because we might be able to get some Jazz thoughts out of him.

At the risk of departing from description and entering into prescription: asking when we’ll see another Jazz game or why they’re not making one is unproductive. We’re covered this story in the past: CliffyB would like another game too, but Epic isn’t big enough to make one at the same time as all its other products in exchange for the limited sales they expect it’d receive. A few dozen (to be realistically optimistic) people saying they’d buy it on Reddit isn’t going to change their mind on that.

However. What they never tell us is why Jazz has never appeared on Steam or GOG, and this seems as good an opportunity as any to try to find out. Remember that JJ1 just turned 18, JJ2 will be turning 15 in a few months, and there are literally thousands of votes for the games to appear on GOG. This should basically be an opportunity for them to get money in exchange for doing hardly anything, and if we can get CliffyB’s attention, maybe he’ll talk about it.

Maybe someone can ask about the source code again? Hope never dies.

Gotta ask him why hasn’t made JJ3 the past 54 years! And why he was such a slacker during JJ2’s development!

Seren on 12 Sep 2012 at 21:32

Stijn, don’t forget to ask why he allowed resolutions higher than 320×200 and added those ugly textured backgrounds. Oh, and why he doesn’t help us with Plus. And throw some insults so he knows you’re serious.

Will do, thanks!

YA WHY WON’T YOU SPEND MONEY ON HIRING PEOPLE TO DEVELOP AND MARKET A SEQUEL TO THE ONLY GAME THAT EPIC HAS EVER LOST MONEY

And, in case anyone’s curious, it’s at 6:30 PM tomorrow in UTC/GMT.

Did we know what he thinks about Kickstarter? If I were to ask a question, I would about it. If he thinks so much about profit deal, then Kickstarter is the only way Jazz Jackrabbit to see the light of the day. At least they can try. He surely knows well Tim Schafer and the success of his Double Fine studios Kickstarter project, so he should be aware of this option.

Ask him to join the next JDC, maybe he’ll remember how awesome jj2 is :(

Well, I found out one thing I didn’t know(I don’t know if any of you already knew this, though):
It isn’t money that’s the problem with a new Jazz game, it’s time. Cliff Bleszinski is quite busy, so although he wants to — and could probably afford to — he can’t make another Jazz game, because he doesn’t have the time(This pokes a big hole in the Kickstarter idea).
Some of you probably already knew this, but I didn’t, so either way, at least I’ve learned something new. :)

But, even if we haven’t learned anything Jazz-related from this, those of us who read it(No pun intended) have probably learned something we didn’t know about Cliff Bleszinski(For example, he used to run around in Halo with the username “Gaypride”(Coloured in rainbows) and go on killing sprees with his epic skills(No pun intended)).

They were thinking to bring back Jazz as an FPS? Honestly, I don’t feel like I want a Jazz sequel anymore.

“How could Jazz exist and flourish in this market? I don’t know, honestly.”

So he don’t know. My suggestion for Cliff would be to hire a talented team (hire the “Dust” guys + the guys from this forum) that is willing to make a new Jazz in the spirit of the original two. Name the studio “Epic East” or “Epic Star” or something else of that matter. And after some progress is made, put it on a kickstarter campaign. That way Cliff will ensure profit deal for Epic plus the so much valued time they don’t have = everyone happy!

Man, Gus is gonna implode when he finds out about the Gaypride thing.
