Description

Casualty Mines, venue of Bloody Valentine

Style: Canyon / Goldmine
Usage Difficult: Easy
Quality (according to average ratings): Fine
Description: Based on the prologue of a horror movie (that I didn’t watch), this tileset includes both a military version and a goldmine version, especially good to be used on resolution 320×200, in a classical Jazz2 level. (A good example of classical level is Blade and Wille’s The Episode)
Noteworthy details: Walls invisible from inside, allow to see the skulls inside; a bunch of green on the floor and the ceiling; a 6×4 tiles hut, with various details, 3D resembling paths, a zombie arm as enemy, rails and carts, mist simulation.
My goal: Having someone to upload a good classical single player level made with this tileset.

Loving the graphical style.

EDIT: Lowered the rating on a retrospective re-evaluation as the tileset has almost no flexibility at all despite having a large number of tiles on offer.

This is a very good tileset and one of the best ones I’ve seen in quite a while. I love the style, and I was quite surprised at just how good it was. It’s a definite improvement over your previous tilesets, which had a bit too much of a “paint shop pro” look to them. This one on the other hand, has a very unique and professional look to it. There’s really no fault I can see in it, other than maybe the grass, which is a bit too bright green, like it’s toxic or something. Also, there aren’t really any good “spike” tiles: there are tiles for lava pools, but that’s a bit limited in how it can be used.

I hope by “My last creation.” you mean it’s your latest creation. It would be a shame for such a great tileset like this to be the last one!

One thing that would be nice is a 1.23 version, like dodges suggested. You’d have to cut stuff, but it’s been done before.

I’m giving this a 10 because even though it’s not perfect, it’s close enough. And I love the art style.

Don’t listen to the people, don’t make a TSF version.
Everyone else – want to use this tileset? Get over yourself and download TSF already.

I really love the looks of this tileset, but you really should make it 1.23. Perhaps cut out some NPC tiles or anything you consider to be double. I would definitely use this. I love the cartoony look and the quality of the art.

Also, looking at the huge variety in coloured liquid puddles… maybe you can make multiple versions, each using another colour liquid and/or colour setting. Just an idea.

Hi Gus! (maybe, Ciao? xD)

I was wondering, how you had time to making all tihs tilesets and single-player modes :).
I remember your Campaing Mysteries – it was very good level pack with full of puzzles and “mysteries”.
Also, why I’m asking about that?
Because you have your own style od graphic. Now, in Casualty Mines I see, that your style is geting mature and mature. What’s more, there are many fantastic layers, good color palete, and also your “world of stone, lava and wagons” had good atmosfere. I like your “gus people”. I don’t know, how I can call them xD. I think, that I like your style, because you made thousands of similar things. This is not disatventage! Some of world famous artist were drawing without variety in technic. They were beautiful, because their works were having their names. This is like in CraccoBoy old levels. All his thinks were nice, because he was characteristic with non-convential ideas :). I would be waiting for the compilation of “Gus world”. Try to make one-big-level (minimum 80 kb).

What’s more, this is one of the best mine tileset in jazz2online i ever seen. Why? Because there is many good eycandy like houses or funny trees in background. Yeeeees… your background is perfect :). I think about from-the-blue-to-color-of-background. It looks professional. rocks also rulez.

I give you 10.0, because this tileset shows, how much you done from your start with jazz to this tileset. Try to make another one :). But, if it’s your last tileset, I must tell you, that you are abonding us with nice class.

Good luck!

Wow.

I don’t know what to say. Really. You’ve contributed alot to our community, tilesets and levels, and you’ve always kept your special cartoony style that I myself found a bit too “simple” and not that great. I haven’t seen you evolve that much in your tilesets since I first saw your Alton Towers tileset, and then comes this masterpiece.

Wow.

The tileset has this high-quality, Epic Megagames style to it that I feel is unmatched by other tilesets (except maybe Agama’s, though I’m not so sure).

Wow.

There are no real negatives to this tileset in my opinion, I really love and the little details such as the rails, carts, cave entrances/exits and doodads.

Wow.

Easily the tileset that blew me away the most. There is nothing else for me to say.

Yes, I mean “Latest”. This is the beginning of a long series.
Relay on fearofdark: Easy to use? Try the “Tidy” version I’ve just made.
Relay on Gavalant: It’s a huge honor for me to have Gavalant, one of the Elite tileset creators in the website, to give me a high rating. Thank you.

To make a 1.23 version would be trivial at worst. There are plenty of things that could be cut out without heavily impacting the tileset (such as the varying background colors, mine cart colors, etc.).

However, Gus shouldn’t feel pressured or obligated to make/not make a 1.23 version. It’s all up to him.

EDIT: Now updated with PROPER REVIEW! As follows:

The first thing any prospective downloader is going to see will be the screenshots, and they are bound to notice what really separates this tileset from pretty much every other tileset out there: its style.

It’s a great style. The whole tileset looks very “soft,” almost as if made of clay, and I love the way it looks. I love it.

And the tileset itself? Not at all typical, and very, very well done. The most notable part of this set is actually a single group of tiles: they are, for gameplay purposes, simple slopes, but graphically, they create an impression of depth and distance, allowing levels to look almost 3D.

There are plenty of things in the tileset that scream out “mine,” from the cliffs, to the tunnels in the cave background, to (of course) the mine carts. This tileset deserves extra recognition on the point that its theme holds together really well; there are many tilesets that have no real central theme and fall apart on that point.

The tileset has a great variety of decorative tiles. Moss, chain lifts, broken chain lifts, rocks (destructible ones even), fences – all manner of things, really, and I love it. Again, it deserves to be mentioned. Especially the cabin/storage shed; a great touch.

Tile layout is solid; not exceptionally user-friendly, but it’s not a nightmare to use like Fortress of Forgotten Souls. Nothing really special on that front, so I’m not going to go far into it. The same applies to masking; there might be a few bugs but I didn’t see any.

My only real complaint about this tileset is the gold: it doesn’t look like gold and it doesn’t look good. It looks like honey or something.

Again, at this point: very, very well done. Deserves a very high rating.

OTHER EDIT: I’ve found one considerable bug in the mask since posting this review. Specifically, the outdoor hole tiles (but not the indoor ones) are fully masked, making them pretty useless. I’ve lowered my rating for this, as it’s quite serious, and shows no signs of being fixed.

SUPER MEGA NEW EDIT: Oh, so the bug’s been fixed. So, hey, extra .3 points, yay!
