<b>INTRO</b>

Hey, I don’t like running ToU. It’s fun when you guys make progress, but you all suck. Regardless, none of the other DMs wanted to do this and I promised Risp I’d start the new thread yesterday. But, on the bright side, I have a NEW feature that will let me write less. So, without further adieu…

Welcome, friend, foe, and forumer to what will be hopefully be the last installment of Tales of Uberbob! Tales of Uberbob is a FUN (for you, generally not me) game where YOU supply the actions and I (if it wasn’t already capitalized it would be for emphasis) provide the story! For instance, if Uberbob is in a room with a box, you might say “lick box”, “pick up box”, or anything in between. You can even leave the room, if there is an exit that way! Some base rules:

<b>Only Radium narrates. It’s his story. You just give commands. No using bold, either. It makes it confusing.</b>
<i>GOOD:</i> Walk through the green door.
<i>BAD:</i> <b>Shuriken walks through the green door.</b>

<b>No deciding the consequences to actions. My story. Not yours.</b>
<i>GOOD:</i> Open the box.
<i>BAD:</i> Open the box and find a gun.

<b>No if/then statements or macros. They make you miss important stuff. Making creative macros to solve puzzles with mass trial and error is cheating.</b>
<i>GOOD:</i> Is the key in the door?
<i>BAD:</i> If there’s a key in the door, open it. Otherwise, find a key then open it.

<b>No changing the point of view. It changes on its own. </b>
<i>GOOD:</i> I am not changing the point of view!
<i>BAD:</i> Change POV to Uberbob!

<b>No doing stuff just to (-) me off. </b>
<i>GOOD:</i> Everyone do something or other logical.
<i>BAD:</i> Everyone line up from north to south.

<b>WHERE WE LEFT OFF</b>

So, let’s have an introduction of where we left off. Uberbob and company were searching for the evil dreadlord Blackraptor who lives deep below the frozen Isle of Darkness. On their journey they killed lots of things and met lots of people, eventually traveling deep below the aforementioned frozen Isle of Darkness. However, they encountered a particularly peculiarly perplexing puzzle below the island - a puzzle that has lead to their deaths multiple times. Will they ever be able to solve it and finish their quest? YOU DECIDE!

Feel free to join in if you haven’t been playing in the previous threads or have completely lost what’s going on. Brief descriptions of the battle system and characters are available at the links below:

<b>I had this uncanny feeling I had been here before. This room looked terribly familiar, with a row of magical runes written up the walls and across the ground and ceiling. Surely this was partly due to us having encountered similar set of runes in Unfooruman’s citadel. In the case of his citadel, the runes were enchanted so you could only cross them one way - ideal for trapping people. A cold wind blew through the tunnel, and I could see frost growing on the walls in the distance. No doubt Araches would start complaining about the cold again soon.
“Archmage Fooruman,” I addressed the wizard, who was sitting in his canoe and staring at the wall. I was glad he idling, because the sound of someone rowing a canoe over a stone floor got very annoying. “You’re a wizard. Can you tell me what these runes do?”
The old man in a purple dress looked down at his body, staring in amazement. “By the ultimate Foo… I <i>AM</i> A WIZARD!”
“Yes... yes you are. And those runes-”
“Begone, green nonwizard dog,” he said, jabbing me in the ribs with a canoe oar. I thought about jabbing him back with my spear, but starting a conflict with my own allies was the last thing we needed right now. Though if he used Uberbob’s term “green dog” again, I just might have to.
I slowly shuffled towards the front of the party, next to L33tz4n. If I moved fast, maybe I could be in charge for a while.

… I was starting to notice that we lacked a real leader, though. I hadn’t even entered the lair and could tell we were as good as screwed.

<b>I took a look at my inventory. My trusty (and more elaborate, after the upgrade) metal spear was still there, as was the first aid kit Uberbob had given me long ago. I still had a sketchbook for practicing my art in, and had managed to keep it hidden from the kleptomaniac rabbit thus far. For some reason, I had a lock of Fooruman’s hair - I forgot why and how I came across this. The deck of tarot cards and book of Canadian runes I had received on the surface of the island were still with me, as were the fax and machine pieces from the Birdclaw mansion. The only thing that was missing was my Compass Rose - evidently, it just couldn’t handle going Dennis.

Well, there was an easy way to find out what the runes did. I took a deep breath and stepped across them. I felt a short rushing feeling, like I was being propelled forward, then the normal unexcitement of adventuring again.
"It’s just another one-way door," I said across the barrier. They didn’t seem to hear me. Uberbob waved frantically, and mouthed something that looked like "can you breathe".</b>

I think I'll put the pic at the end. It works better there.

<b>"Yes, I can breathe," I responded, but they still couldn't hear me. Uberbob mouthed something that looked like "how high is the pie."
"Uberbob," L33tz4n said, tapping him on the shoulder, "if it’s a one-way gate, he can hear us fine."
"Oh. Cool. Can you really, Faw?" he asked. I shook my head. I wanted to enjoy his silence a bit longer.
After a while, as I pretended to be checking the walls for traps or fish or whatever, I signaled for the rest of the party to cross.
"Whew, hello, can you hear me now?" Uberbob asked when he got across. I shook my head again, and he went back to mouthing something or other to me. I wasn’t really paying attention.
We went down the hallway for a bit until we came to a new room. The walls were made from what looked like ice and the ceiling stretched in an enormous dome overhead. Four doors lined the walls of the room, with an elaborate fountain in the center. Oddly, the water in the fountain didn't appear to be freezing. The entire room was illuminated by a glowing sphere atop the fountain. It was quite beautiful. No doubt Uberbob or someone would try to pull it off. There were some cracks and scratches in the walls and floor, but they looked to be long frozen over.
"Wow..." L33tz4n said as she entered the room.
"Yeah," Araches added, “classy for a deathtrap."
Fooruman looked preoccupied. "Something dark lurks deep within these wonton withered walls…"
"Wonton withered walls? That doesn’t even make sen-"
"SILENCE!" he bellowed, grabbing my shoulders and pointing in a direction. For a split second I could’ve sworn I saw something moving, but it could’ve just been my mind playing tricks on me. "FEEL the music, Beethoven!" I shook the senile old man off and gave his canoe a kick, sending it skidding across the icy floor.</b>

In that case, East instead.

Also, if anyone from the old thread wants to summarize the headway made so far in this puzzle, it would probably help.

<b>Splitting up to cover more ground felt like a good idea. "Shuri, L33tz4n, you and I go east. Uberbob, you go west." The rabbit saluted and ran back to the west.
"What about us?" Araches asked, gesturing to herself and Fooruman.
"Stay here and make sure nothing bad happens."
L33tz4n, Shuri, and I walked through the large door to the east. The walls fell away, revealing a seemingly bottomless abyss to our left and right. The sound of unseen wind echoed through the empty space, and the frozen walkway below us glowed with an ominous light. At the end, an inscription was carved into the wall. I carefully crossed the platform to examine it. I read it aloud to L33tz4n and Shuri.

<i>time passes as one approaches the end
a step forward can take any form
outside it matters that face of the commands stay constant
there is no reason at all to be on the edge of caution
before you move, the point is simply to face left</i>

Below it was a carving in the ice.

http://www.foxmage.com/Carving.gif

"What do you think it means?" L33tz4n asked.
"I guess it's a riddle. Or bad poetry."</b>

Notice how NE and SW rooms are related. SW has a raindrop and a triangle, while NE has a needle and a pyramid. Both the needle and the raindrop have got one sharp edge, and a pyramid is composed of triangles. Same goes for NW and SE: NW has two tetrahedrons which could relate to SE's pyramid. It has a cube, which could also relate to the flat square in SE. NW also has a cylinder, which could relate to SE's sphere. Obviously the crystal from the sleepbag, the fountain water and the carving also have some impact on this puzzle, and it shouldn't be too hard to figure them out...<hr color="000088">Also:time passes as one approaches the endNo idea what this means, will try to figure out later.a step forward can take any form"form" could possibly relate to how this the key elements have the form of geometric figures.outside it matters that face of the commands stay constantAlso didn't clear this one out yet...there is no reason at all to be on the edge of caution"on the edge of caution" could be the edge of a crystal room (the entrance). The three vital points of the carving is the lock, the smaller square (could be a door?) and the pointy thing. It could be very well an arrow, but also it could be tetrahedron or a pyramid (or both?). One thing which doesn't make much sense are the bigger squares, which are abound. Hmm...

I think Uberbob lost the tools, but I'm not sure. I think you guys already tried beating through the walls with all manner of things, though.

<b>I led L33tz4n and Shuri back to the fountain room and through the south doorway. Here was what appeared to be the remains of a campsite; a half fallen down (or half set up, depending on our attitude) tent was off to the side with a backpack and some scattered snackfoods nearby. Perhaps most disturbing, though, was the skeleton in the corner of the room. Its bones had been picked clean and it was missing its head. The giant frozen-over crack in the ice next to it didn't make it any less creepy. Two more doors were to the east and west, each with a bright light coming from them.
"I guess we weren't the first ones here," L33tz4n concluded.
"I'm hoping we're currently the ONLY ones here," I added.

Radium
Jun 19, 2006, 04:57 PM
I was going to draw a nice mini internal view of the fallen down tent, but then my computer died The Final Death and now I have to make a new one and reinstall Jasc.

<b>I could hear a voice in the back of my head telling me not to scream in terror at my situation. It was quite strange, considering I wasn't even considering screaming. I decided to name this little piece of my subconscious Canti, because it seemed like a good name. "Don't worry Canti, I'm brave. I'm not going to scream" I consoled it.
I poked my head into the tent to look around. The only thing of interest was a warm, fluffy feeling sleeping bag. I was contemplating snuggling with it for a while when I felt something hard inside. I reached in and removed an irregularly shaped crystal of some kind. It was translucent blue and looked like it was made from the same icy material as the room was. I took the crystal and bag both back out with me.
"What do you make of this?" I asked the girls.
L33tz4n took a look at the crystal. "It looks like it's made from the same material as the cave. Maybe it's a piece to this puzzle?"
"I think it's a rock. It looks like the cave because we found it in the cave," Shuri suggested.
"I changed my mind," L33tz4n said, "Shuri's probably right."
I looked carefully at the crystal. Something about it told me it was important, and I was just looking at it wrong.

I kind of agree with Ae on the whole fish thing. Commands like "throw L33tz4n off cliff" and "pick up pyramid while inside sleeping bag" get pretty annoying, but it gets agonizingly boring responding to rows upon rows of "pick up" and "put down" and "look at". If you all responded "consider fishing" and I had to write an entire post about fishing, then I'd get annoyed. I don't even like fishing that much.

<b>I examined the skeleton. The bones had scratches in some places, but were not pierced or shattered anywhere. The most unnerving part was still the frozen-over crack in the ice below it. It was almost as if something came through and killed him.
"Wait here," I told L33tz4n and Shuri, "I'm going to go back to the bridge. I think I have an entirely unrelated idea."
I walked north then east back to the icy bridge over the abyss. On my way, I started thinking about fishing. The door on the Isle of Darkness was at about sea level, and we had only gone down since then. Presumably, we were underwater now. There had to be fish somewhere. "I'll check the fountain later," I told myself. Something about the whole fish thing made me feel a bit like Uberbob.
Once on the bridge I stood across from the carving on the wall and looked at it through the crystal. Apart from being a bit skewed by refracted light, it looked exactly the same. No magic viewing crystal, evidently.
I looked at the mysterious crystal itself. I had to be missing something with it. It weighed about a kilogram, give or take, and was around 20 CM wide. It was kind of round, but made of seventeen distinct surfaces. It was transparent blue in color, as was most of the cave. I looked over my shoulder to ensure nobody was looking, then licked the crystal. It tasted like a cold rock with maybe a hint of salt. </b>

Have we tried swapping out crystals yet? We probably have; I just wanted to make sure because it was something that worked in a puzzle sometime back in part 1 or 2.

Of course, that right there would be a good reason for it to not work.

minmay
Jun 21, 2006, 05:08 PM
I'm pretty sure the gem rooms work like this: if a gem is picked up or taken out of the room, the POV gets impaled.

If the tiny shard in the corner is picked up, the eight spikes come down and block the exit, and picking up a gem will not impale anyone. However, all the gems must be on the floor and the shard must be put down before the spikes go back up.

If L33tz4n is standing by the doorway, she gets impaled.

So let's not pick up the gems. Something tells me that we need to figure out the poem and the carving before we can make much headway on this puzzle.

<b>There were a few things I wanted to try to figure this out. I walked back west into the main chamber and looked closely at the fountain. If I wanted to get to the top it probably wouldn't be that hard to climb. I looked through the crystal at the fountain water. Again, no change was evident, supporting my theory that the crystal was just an ordinary rock. I cupped my hands into the fountain and tasted the water. It tasted fresh (and, though I thought it was odd that I was even thinking this, not cherry flavored). Deeming the fountain pointless for now, I continued south.
I wanted to check if something was below the crack in the ice. I jammed my spear into the end and tried to stab and pry the crack open, but nothing seemed to work.
I decided going into one of the glowing rooms would be a good idea, but first I wanted to hug L33tz4n for some reason. Eh, it seemed like a good enough idea.
"L33tz4n," I asked, "can I hug you? Just gently. For good luck. And stuff."
She looked a bit baffled. "Um.. okay." We embraced eachother. It was a mix of awkward and sweet. She felt warm and soft.
I coughed. "Anyway, be right back, I'm checking that room." I walked through the glowing doorway into the room to the west.
This room was much different than the ones I had seen thus far. The floor was glowing a brilliant white, like something from a Colgate commercial. The room was empty, apart from three crystalline shapes in the center. One was a pyramid, one was a flat and very thin square, and the last was a sphere.
Something about this room felt oddly like a trap. Shiny things are never free, in my experience.</b>

<b>It suddenly occured to me to run back east and get the backpack full of potentially useful things. Inside it had three bags of generic-brand chips, two bars of what was presumably some kind of food, and a PDA. The screen on the PDA was cracked; I tapped a few of the buttons but got no response.
Walking back into the glowing chamber, I looked at the ceiling. It looked perfectly smooth and dome shaped. I tried rotating the pyramid to the left a few times, but nothing happened. Finally I braced myself for potential pain or traps, and set the crystal I had found in the campsite (which looked to be made from the same material as these ones) down between the pyramid and square.
Predictibly, pain followed. An icy spike shot up from the ground and went through my leg. More spikes came down in the doorway, barring me in. It hurt a lot. The leg one, not the door spikes.

<b>Clenching my leg in pain, I picked the crystal from the campsite back up. The spikes retracted back into the floor and ceiling with a rough "schhzzzing" sound. I was bleeding on the ground for a minute before I remembered I was a healer and fixed my leg.

minmay
Jun 24, 2006, 06:37 AM
Okay, but we can infer from past posts that throwing the crystal into the room from a distance will get Faw impaled and not help us at all.

First, when we simply put it down Faw got impaled.
Second, when we pulled one of the gems out of the room with L33tz4n's whip (with Shuri OUTSIDE of the room), Shuri got impaled (and killed, at that).

So it's logical that Faw will just get hurt.

And, looking back to when we picked up the shard in the corner, eight spikes came down and blocked the doorway, but Shuriken didn't get impaled (L33tz4n did, but that's only because she was in the doorway). She still didn't get impaled after picking up the pyramid and putting down the crystal, but with that done and the shard back in the corner, the spikes didn't go up.

The spikes ONLY went back up when the room was back in its original state.

What's that tell you? Certainly not that we should use the same failed tactic over and over.

Now, I would recommend doing something more or less safe until we figure out <u>exactly</u> how to use the gems. I mean, obviously trial and error is not the way to go. Who knows? Maybe the gem rooms are just there to distract us (and impale us).

Let's climb up on the fountain and maybe drink some of its water.

Oh, yeah, and give L33tz4n a bag of chips.

Risp_old
Jun 24, 2006, 06:58 AM
Maybe I just misinterpreted your statement, but in the past thread, every time you have moved a gem the doorway spikes have come down and someone has gotten impaled. That's all the pattern is, no fancy 'this crystal does this, that crystal does that' stuff.

Sorry guys, WC3. Forgot this existed.

<b>I walked back east into the room with L33tz4n. "L33tz4n," I offered, "would you like a bag of chips?" I held up a bag of chips to add illustration to my statement.
"Oh, no thanks," she said, "I'm not hungry."
I suddenly felt a bit hurt, kind of like days of planning had gone to waste. "Are you sure?" I asked, "I can open the bag for you."
"Yes... I'm sure."
"Oh. Okay." I decided I should probably make this less awkward by examining stuff. I went over to the skeleton; the cracks under it looked to be long frozen over. I stabbed them a bit with my spear, but it bounced back off without doing any damage. I thought I could make out something long moving under the ice, but it was too distant to identify.
Next, I travelled north to the fountain room, north again to another hallway, and through the glowing door to the west.
This room had two crystals in it. One was shaped like a raindrop, or a sphere with a pointy top. The other was a sort of rounded triangle, or like a sphere with three distinct points on it.

Actually, before Faw put down the crystal and got impaled, he rotated the pyramid a little. It didn't hurt him. So it should be safe.

...and no matter who picks up the gem/puts down the crystal, Faw is the one that gets impaled. This puzzle is, I believe, built so that the third time we pick up a gem/put down the crystal, Faw dies and we restart.

...I had a wonderful idea last night.

Now, any of you remember the puzzle back in Part 1, with the four pillars? It turned out they corresponded to the four seasons. What if the four rooms in this puzzle each correspond to one season, and the crystals, each month? Since Autumn and Spring are considered to be shorter than other seasons, they could be the rooms with only two crystals each. That would mean the other two have to be Summer and Winter. The sphere could represent a snowball, or perhaps the sun.

Yes, there are only 11 crystals divided among the rooms. But there's also the one we found at the campsite, which makes 12.

And "time passes as one approaches the end" could mean that something has to be done at a certain time...

I don't know, I'm not good at this sort of thing.

EDIT: And I this pag is now clammed.

Xobim
Jun 30, 2006, 12:14 PM
Whoa, how did you figure that out?

Edit: All I can think of is that the room with the small needle has only one gem(because you can pick up the needle), the northwest room two gems, the southwest room three and the northeast room four.

Radium
Jun 30, 2006, 12:27 PM
Woah, I've been slacking off in my responding. Sorry.

<b>I thought back to the carving on the wall. <i>Before you move, the point is simply to face left.</i> I knelt down and - without lifting them - pointed both crystals to the left. Nothing seemed to happen, which was both a good and bad thing: good because I wasn't injured and bad because nothing else happened. In the end, it didn't seem to be much of anything at all.
Frustrated with the worthless trapped crystals, I wandered back east and south to the campsite, snacking on some of the chips as I went. They tasted like sour cream and onion. Maybe, I thought to myself, I could find help in something else I had found earlier.
"Araches," I addressed the scantily-clad sorceress, who seemed rather annoyed with the cold, "do you know how to use tarot cards?"
The sorceress began to open her mouth but was interrupted by Fooruman. "By the seven fruity flavors! I am a MASTER at the practices of carding! Allow me, young one, to impart to you my infinite knowledge." The wizard took the deck of cards from me and proceeded to sort out all the trump cards. I sat on the ground, watching intently. He placed the remaining cards on the ground between, handing me seven and accepting seven himself. "Now madam Fawriel, look deep into your cards, concentrate with all your energies, and tell me if you are in possession of any cards numbered 'six'."
I looked at my cards. "No, no I'm not." The wizard drew another card from the deck. "Fooruman, is this Go Fish?"
"Why, you question my knowledge? Insolent Cessna!"
"Er.. right. I need to go look at this crack in the ground.. again." I said, slowly standing up and backing away, then running to the south. I left the deck of cards with Fooruman to ponder over.

"Find anything?" Shuriken asked as I returned to the campsite.
"More crystals. I presume they're trapped too." I looked at the crack under the skeleton again. It looked exactly as it did before and didn't seem to be anything useful.

For some reason I felt like asking L33tz4n if I could draw her, but couldn't help but think that would feel and sound really awkward - especially so soon after those other awkward moments. And if the drawing was ugly that would be really embarassing. Maybe later I'd try asking.

I agree with Minmay. Many of your current presumptions remind me of a psychological experiment I learned about. Some pigeons were put in a cage with a device that gave them food at timed intervals. Whatever the pigeons were doing when they got food, they continued doing in hopes of getting more food (e.g. if they were turning around when the food came, they would keep spinning around).

Now, I'm not saying that you're getting impaled at timed intervals, only that you need to remain willing to test what you think you already know.

Both the needle and the raindrop have got one sharp edge, and a pyramid is composed of triangles.
Is it a pyramid with a square for the base, or a triangle?

Edit:

I have the feeling that I'm putting in spoilers in here ;|. So PM me if I'm not supposed to do what I do and randomly blurt out stuff.

1 time passes as one approaches the end
2 a step forward can take any form
3 outside it matters that face of the commands stay constant
4 there is no reason at all to be on the edge of caution
5 before you move, the point is simply to face left

1: I'm not sure.
2: I want to say that this means the order we take action in doesn't matter.
3: Face. ;|?
4: Edge. I think Rad just told us to kill Faw.
5: Vertex. Does it mean that we should try and move to where the impaling spike doesn't come out ;/?

If you really wanted to, one could take this a step further and say that vertex -> edge -> face -> form -> Animation. But perhaps it's just 6 in the morning.

"What? That doesn't even make sense."
While Araches attempted to figure out Fooruman, I looked around for a good foothold and proceeded to scale the fountain. When I got to the top, I tapped the lightbulb. Absolutely nothing happened. I slid back down, though, and that was kind of fun.
I didn't particularly want to admit Araches was right about the light, so I quickly snuck north and into the northeast room. I did, though, cup my hands and take some of the fountain water with me.
Like the last few rooms, this one had the glowing floor and likely trapped crystals. The crystals here were in the shape of a cube, cylinder, and two triangular pyramids (you know, like D4 dice). I noted to myself that this was the most I had seen in one room yet.
I poured the fountain water over the crystals. Apart from the ground now being wet and slippery, there was no change evident.

W,W.
Make sure nobody is in the doorway.
Rotate the raindrop crystal so the point faces left.
Move the raindrop crystal upwards (not north), not rotating it and keeping the faces constant.

I doubt this'll work, but if it does it saves me the trouble of developing a more elaborate (and interesting) solution.

Look, I didn't come here to argue. I just find the theory of impalation rather undeveloped and implausible, and thought I'd test it a little. If this doesn't work, Faw can heal himself or something, and I'll develop something else.
Anyway, it's currently one of three possible actions, and Radium doesn't have to do it if it's stupid. We could touch the sleeping bag instead.

(As for what Radium wrote about worthlessness, there are such things as personification and non-objective narration.)

Xobim, that's a bad idea. There's a very mean monster down there that tore pieces of a Water Elemental, a Mythslayer, L33tz4n, and Shuriken to shreds. Possibly Uberbob too, depending on how well he held on to the rope.

Hey guys, Rad's asked me to do a few DM posts. I'm taking the first three commands as they don't conflict with each other.

<b>Fed up with the dissatisfying properties of water on solid matter, and geometric crystals in general, I stormed into the empty room to the West, took out the crystal I had recently obtained and, in an uncharacteristically violent fit of rage, smacked it as hard as I could with my spear. The crystal merely slid across the floor until it hit the icey wall. Then it stopped.
"Beautiful," said Araches as she and Uberbob suddenly walked in. "That gesture said more than words ever could."
"Fawriel, that was an ITEM!" Uberbob cried, apparently deeply offended by my actions. "We don't attack our items, we hold onto them until they help us solve a puzzle, or we trade them to the invisible gremlins for something better!"
The simple-minded rabbit walked over to the gem and cradled it in his arms like a newborn baby. Araches watched with a look of disgust and loathing, then gathered herself together and turned back to me.
"In his own stupid way, he has a point. We probably need the gems to get out of here."
"Yeah, yeah," I replied, utterly exasperated, and just a little bit tired. I then noticed that the Archmage was no longer in their company, and decided to voice this revelation. "Hey, where's Fooruman?"
"He's back in the other room, playing Tarot with the fountain or something," Araches replied.
"Oh, okay," I said. "Well, if you'll excuse me I have to go touch the sleeping bag in that other room."
Araches raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
"It just feels right."
Araches then, quite forcefully, slapped me across the face. With my face being numb from the cold, it took about five seconds for me to feel the blow at all. I rubbed my cheek with my empty hand, trying to massage feeling back into it, then looked up at Araches.
"Thank you," I said.
"Don't mention it."

Having been assaulted back into sanity, I strode one room west, into another glowy-floored, dome-shaped and icey chamber. Lying on the floor were two crystals: one was like a poofy triangle, while the other looked like a drop of water. Resisting the rising urge to stab them with my spear, I walked over to the enigmatic crystals and knelt down beside them, reciting all the clues we had gathered thus far in my mind.
I then got an idea. After carefully laying down my spear, I took the drop-shaped crystal in my hand, rotated it so the point was facing left, and, very carefully, lifted it up off the ground while keeping the faces constant. No sooner had I lifted it more than an inch off the ground did an ice-cold spike rise lightning-fast out of the ground, and impale me, much like the meat on the kabob I had brought from the mansion for sustainance. I knew there was irony in there somewhere, but either my frustration or the loss of large quantities of blood was keeping me from finding it.</b>

I now attempted to roll the crystal out of the room, but the moment I tried to push it toward the door another ice-cold spike shot up and impaled me again. Resetting means we have to redo entering the caves. Thats bound to get annoying if all we're doing is killing Faw.

But what if we find something out?

Many of your current presumptions remind me of a psychological experiment I learned about. Some pigeons were put in a cage with a device that gave them food at timed intervals. Whatever the pigeons were doing when they got food, they continued doing in hopes of getting more food (e.g. if they were turning around when the food came, they would keep spinning around).

Now, I'm not saying that you're getting impaled at timed intervals, only that you need to remain willing to test what you think you already know.

minmay
Jul 7, 2006, 05:37 PM
Well, we've tested what we thought we knew. Now what? Do we impale Faw a fourth time?
