JCS Awards 2014 - Nominations

Every poster is allowed to nominate as many entries as they want. Entries have to have been released in 2014, either by being uploaded to the J2O downloads section or being otherwise made accessible to the general public. Keep in mind this is not a voting thread - when the deadline is reached, suggestions made here will be listed in a separate thread where you will be able to cast your votes.

Nominations will be open for a period of one week, i.e. until 22:00 CET January the 10th, 2015.

Available categories are listed below. If you can come up with a category that isn't listed but sounds reasonable and would have at least two decent entries, don't hesitate to suggest it.

I'd suggest adding 'Best Test Level' to this list too, because there have been quite some test uploads in 2014. A test could be 'Other MP level', but since it is a category of its own with people putting time and effort in maintaining said category and building tests, I think it deserves a place here. I know, I made 3 tests too, so I may be a little biased on the Test Front, but that does give me the right to speak up for this category.

As I don't think there's many 2014 "Other MP levels" besides tests, I'd say that category can be used for it fine...

If that is indeed the will of the council, then so be it, and I will not be heard from again. Yet in my honest opinion, the label 'other' makes it sound so...trivial. Putting together Treasure Hunt and Test is nothing short of blasphemy. Also, the amount of Single Player uploads is 12, and Tests beats that with 14 uploads. Even CTF doesn't get that far, with only 13 uploads. Then why, o Great Council, do both Single Player and CTF have their own respective category, whereas the Tests are cast aside in the void of Otherness?

As for nominating things, I must admit I have neither downloaded nor played anything or most of the things listed, so my whole and only contribution to this party lies within the uploads I made (added, bestowed, whatever word fits best here) and my opinion on the Test Files.

My own opinion on the matter is that test levels tend to be of significantly lower quality than levels for any other game modes; thus, competition between tests and other levels ensures that award-winning tests are actually on par with other entries and not just the best in their own category (which, as a side note, is basically strongly bastardized single player where a wide variety of features and high eyecandy standards were replaced with social interaction).

Borgia has a point :p. If there is enough test levels to make a category, then i think there should be a 'best test level' category.

I haven't played SWAG, and I don't know if it's eligible for these awards, but it's supposedly good, so probably you should include that one too.

There is literally not a single "other" level that was uploaded to J2O in 2014, except for Borgia's own Cathedral of St. Borgius. If there were to be any changes, I'd recommend getting rid of the other category and adding a test category, but that doesn't seem necessary. Just count test levels as "other". Or just get it over with and name it the "Borgia award".

It's not that there are no Battle levels.. there are enough Battle levels in Renewed Inspirations.

True, but it says other MULTIPLAYER level. Tests can be played in Single Player, also.

I only made it 'other' because Sir Ementaler commented upon my first choice of category in his review of the Cathedral. It used to be Single Player, but according to SE that was mislabeled. Since there is no 'Hotel' or 'Art' level category, I changed it to 'other'.

Borgia Award does sound appealing...I would be most honored :P.

No. Check the recent uploads of 2014. They are on Stijns post. Graesy is the only decent tileset of 2014. Two are terrible and the last are boring, clashy conversions. I didn't even know 555 made a tileset because it wasn't uploaded as one.

I didn't notice because it wasn't uploaded as a tileset. Most of it is either from top secret or ripped text and sprites. I'll stick it into the "Yet another top secret conversion" category.
