But anyways, it depends what the license agreement says. For example, the version of Microsoft Office 2000 I have is a two-computer license, so it can be installed on two computers at a time, and if an install is attempted on a third computer, it will not be allowed.

But most programs only allow themselves to be used on one computer, with one backup copy made. You can't use both at the same time, nor transfer ownership without also transferring or destroying the backup.
