He looks like a child again, and Zelda was always the realization of Shigeru Miyamoto's childhood wanderings around the woods in Japan. Besides, the style stands on its own against Mario - the two worlds were starting to look awfully similar on the N64.

As far as the "Star Wars ripoff" comments - If you believe that then you must believe that Austin Powers and No One Lives Forever/Cate Archer are "ripping off" James Bond, no?
