Don't know for sure, but I think your mom is confusing Jazz Jackrabbit with Bucky O'Hare, the OTHER green bunny with a gun. Originating from a comic drawn by Neal Adams, he starred in his own animated series around 1990. Again the level of the comic was brought down to saturday morning cartoon quality, but at least he got a show of his own.
