It dosn't crash THAT often, just make sure you save before you try anything tricky. Put pallett suite and gimp together and you dont even need TTM32.zip, tho you might want it. I dont have it, dont know how good it is, but gimp comes with a ton of texture making tools. Some of the plugins just won't work, no matter what you try. But I love gimp. And Disguise is right, nobody makes tilesets with it.

I downloaded TM32.zip, and you want it. Gimp can make easy textured backgrounds (skys), TM32 can make texture tiles.
