Chapter 5: Fight and Run
The guards came rushing at him like bolts of lightening. One sword aimed for his head, he raised his sword and slashed the guard who tried to pull that stunt in the heart. The next two guards aimed for his heart. He managed to slay one but the other pierced just below his heart. He could feel himself spit up blood.
Suddenly the guard fell to his knees. A spear was logged in his heart. Alberto had saved his life. “Run, my friend” He said quickly. He ran over to bugsy to find she had not died but was knocked unconscious.
Ax Man limped into the woods, he looked back at the castle and vowed to return one day.
Chapter 6: To kill a king
His darker side had finally reached him. He could no longer control it. The expulsion, the order of death, it was all wrong! But so was he! He had killed a man. The blood was stained on his hand forever. At least let me organize the story in my mind he thought. So he backtracked in his mind.
Ax Man had spent the bitter winter in the caves of Aqruin. He had grown bitter at the king for what he had done. The only thing that had kept him alive all of the winter was plotting ways to kill the king. “Well that and killing Intruim patrols on the border and taking their supplies and weapons,” he thought to himself. He had long ago replaced his short sword with a larger one. He had on his side always he never put it down. More than once he had to defend the little cave he called home from men who had come to claim him. Each time he shook uncontrollably for he had killed one of his own.
Ax Man finally had enough Intruim money to finally hire and assassin from the town. When the assassin arrived at the cave Ax Man called home, he carved a strange symbol and a few numbers on the side of the cave and walked away.
When Ax Man went to receive his letter he looked at it carefully it said “Midsummer Night the 15th of 4567?” “Yeah” Ax Man thought to him self “That’s the day”
It seemed like Midsummer Night the 15th would never come, the night of the king’s address to the entire land of Aqruin and the assassination. The assassin had been cleverly passed off as a warrior/guard to the king’s address. He had been completely informed of the city it’s outline and how to act by Ax Man. The rest was up to him.
“My dear citizens of Aqruin….” The assassin started the ascent behind the stairs to the king’s back. “It has come to my attention that….” The king started his address but never finished. He gave one final gasp of air and fell face first onto the podium. Blood poured out of the dead king’s mouth, as citizens became quite frightened. “Mission accomplished” the assassin whispered to himself. As he ran from the scared crowd a tight smile came over his lips.
Chapter 7: Return to Aqruin
“Now is the best time to go back to Aqruin” Ax Man thought to himself, over his lunch of wild mushrooms. He got dressed and headed down the wooded path that would take him to Aqruin.
He walked halfway down the path and stopped to rest. He turned quickly to watch a fox dart across the foliage. Time to catch dinner he thought. He quickly darted into the foliage with speed that only experience could grant a man. The fox was fast but he was faster. He started off into a sprint. In a few minutes he had the fox cut off. The fox growled and bit him in the leg. “Ouch! Sun of an…”Ax Man yelled. He stabbed the fox in the eye and blood poured out, but it still wasn’t dead. He stabbed again and this time it died.
Ax Man was walking back to his site when a knife curved around Ax Man’s neck.” Don’t move, if u wanna live” the voice behind him hissed. Ax stopped dead in his tracks. He shoves his elbow into the assailant’s leg. He screamed in agony. Ax Man drew his Ismurian sword and held the tip to the assailant’s neck. “Who sent you?” Ax growled.
“No-one! I just want some money to feed my family!” The man yelled.” Here take some coins!” Ax Man said as he tossed some Ismurian money into the man’s hand. “Oh! Thank you kind sir!” the man nodded gracefully “Yeah whatever. Goodbye” Ax Man yelled behind him as he headed down the path. “Guess I don’t get to eat or sleep” ax man thought to himself.
As the morning sun loomed overhead, Ax Man arrived at the gates of Aqruin tired and hungry. He looked up at the buildings. He eyes rolled into his head. Ax Man fell unconscious by the city gates
Chapter 8: What was is gone
Ax Man awoke with a start. He looked gently around his surroundings. The house was quite plain, despite some ornate vases in the corner. The looked as if they belonged to royalty. Probably some thieves’ hideout. “We thought you would never wake up.” A voice snapped behind him. It was Dreama’s. “What are you doing here? Why are you guys not in the castle?”
Dreama started into a story that was obviously pain staking to talk about. “After the king was assassinated one of the lower kings Neoleis moved and claimed control of Aqruin. His first move was to remove the royal guard and replace it with highly priced assassins. As he took out his enemies the town’s economy went down and down. The only rich one left is the king. We were forced to take what we could and escape the assassins to the slums. We have been planning a resistance to overthrow Neoleis and put the king’s heir Lelia rightfully onto the thrown.” Dreama finished her story with a quick sigh.
“I can help tactically” Ax Man replied cheerfully. “Now let’s go get the castle, but Neoleis is mine”
