Servers that ping endlessly are ones that n00bs open up who have firewalls and expect people to be able to join. Try joining other servers. Sometimes, I put up a server (that cannot be joined, and pings endlessy) called, "Please host 1.23." I also host it if one of those stupid hotels that you're not allowed to roast in bans me for roasting everyone.
