There IS no game over screen. Once you get a game over your computer will grow an arm and strangle you to death. And you can't sell your soul to the Snufuss, you killed him. And you can't sell your soul to the Devil, Xion got hit by a space ship. Fawriel and Uberbob are still moderately consious. Araches' status is unknown.
You concentrate on being Link from Zelda. You glide down (painfully, you're on fire) and begin to flip over. Really, if this pool wasn't filled with water you'd've cracked your skull open. Landing in the pool, you are no longer on fire, but still in excruciating pain.
