I already went over this, Xion. If the pylon is destroyed when it is still on it will more or less break the universe. And, thinking about it, there would no longer be any walls between the torn plane and others, so the plane the pylon used to be on would start to suck in other planes that (ironically) don't have the equivalent of a pylon themselves. The only way you could safely neutralize the pylon is to capture it.
