Winamp SHOUTcast is more recommended for such stuff.
Here's a tutorial to set it up: (by codeboy & Dorkboy)
Quote:
Follow these instructions to get it working:
Goto shoutcast.com and download BOTH the server and DJ (client) software from them
First run the server and goto "edit config", follow those instructions... the most important things to change are password and maxuser, save this. Then kill and restart the server.
Now open WinAmp (i am assuming that you have used your intelligence and installed the plugin...). Goto preferences and in the plugins section of the options down the left hand menu select "DPS/Effect"
Click on "Nullsoft Shoutcast Source....." in the window on the right. A new window will pop up and you can close the options
In the new window (Shoutcast Source), click on the "output" tab, and put in the relevant details of where your server is hosted (REMEMBER THAT IF YOU ARE ON A LAN THAT YOU NEED TO CONNECT LOCALLY TO YOUR SERVER [LOCALHOST OR YOUR LAN IP ADDRESS])
Make sure you put in the password you set in the server! Click "connect" and start playing your music! You will want to set the quality of the broadcast at the "encoder" tab.
To allow your friends (if you have any) to listen simply put http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8000 ... the string of 'x' being your ip .. make sure you use the right port which you have set
I havent listed every minor detail because i'm assuming that you all have a level of intelligence and tech knowledge...

Remember that :

- People CAN rip your broadcasts
- That ie. a 256Kbps upstream will be used by perhaps 4/5 clients at high quality

Tutorial 'Addon'
---------------------------
This will allow you to listen to music while you're station is playing music.

First, download Winamp 5.0 and Winamp 2.91. Download and install Shoutcast (I recommend installing it on 2.91 since it doesn't take as much resources). Set up a server. Now, heres what you gotta do. Start up Winamp 5.0 and check the box that says "Allow multiple instances". This will start up W5 even though W2.91 is running. Now, start W2.91 and start streaming. Now, what you gotta do here is set Winamp 2.91's output plugin to Null. W2.91 won't make a sound after that. You might wonder why you couldnt just lower the sound (since it does have a volumebar). Well unfortunatley the soundbar is integrated with Windows so lowering the sound on Winamp will lower it everywhere (Can't figure out how to describe that in an easier way). Now, boot up W2.91 (I recommend booting it up first), start streaming or whatever. Then boot up W5.0 and listen to music or something. Oh and btw, you can connect to your own channel using "localhost:8000" or your own ip + :8000.
