ehhmmm...no. The wormhole appears, twisting through the current space, but the wormhole itself is highly compressed. It's like running a string from point A and point B.
But this only works for long distances...if I need to bounce between two, three, maybe even four plantets in a single star system I can do that on an impulse drive, which merely propels the ship itself.
A trip across the entire galaxy would have to be...oh...a good hour ride.
