Or...or... it could be a semi-3D game. Everything in the game will be 3D (no sprites whatsoever) but the view could be of the standard 2D platform view we use in JJ2. That would improve the graphics a lot, but it's really hard to do good-looking cartoonish 3D graphics (hmm, anyone remember the 3D platform game Bugs Bunny Back in Time? Eww....).
Ok, ok, I'll get to the point now:
I think the game should move on, but not forget its roots, unless everyone wants a completely new game that would be a world apart from its prequels if it weren't for the similar characters and the story, which should take place after JJ2 (btw, in JJ3 Devan kidnapped Jazz'c children.. that is pretty much the same as when Devan kidnapped Eva, so maybe there should be a story with Devan but is not centred around him or his evil plans?). <---- That's one whole, long sentence ppl!
We mustn't forget that the original JJ1 and JJ2 were both released in a time when 3D-gaming was the norm! First JJ1 smacked Doom on its fingers just as it was about to take the gaming world with it slimy hands. Then JJ2 came and showed Quake II where the corner was (although I don't think JJ2 could ever match Half-Life

). Maybe JJ3 should, once again, prove that 2D games can beat 3D ones?
I mean, 2D has its obvious limitations: only 4 directions to go in, less interaction with objects and enemies, less spectacular lvl design (I'm not saying that Epic's JJ1 or JJ2 levels are bad, but 3D games can offer more variety and cooler stuff because 3D games do not rely on tilesets the way platform games do), but since when did JJ1 or JJ2 try to beat 3D games on their own territory? It's gameplay that matters! I once saw a review a long time ago that claimed a JJ2 battle game was even more exciting than a Quake II deathmatch. Although I've only played Quake III (it is supposedly better than its prequels) I can still honestly say that I agree with the reviewer. JJ3 must keep its prequels' amazing gameplay, excitement and replayability and add lots more. This may sound like a JJ2 expansion, but theoretically, if you add and improve enough stuff (i.e. A LOT of stuff) it becomes a sequel.

But hey, even if only an expansion pack is released, it would probably mean a 1.25 patch, an improved JCS (putting two events on top of each other would be great!), an improved Lori and a couple of new tilesets/lvls/music/graphics/enemies. That wouldn't be so bad either, right?
If, and only if, JJ3 stays 2D, it would mean that Xbox and PS2 users will be disappointed because they are used to 3D graphics and of course, for PC users, it means that the uber-expensive graphic cards ppl bought would be rendered useless. That's where we go back to the point I made at the top of my post. 2D/3D platform gaming.
I don't want to go into more detail about things like multiplayer types, story, etc. They have already been made. I only posted this because everyone was talking of either taking the next step into the 3D world without thinking about how revolutionary JJ1 and JJ2 was for platform gaming, or being conservative and "just fix the current bugs and leave it as it is".
What do
YOU think?
