Ok, a little clarification here: Technically, every piece of software is *illegal* to distribute other than by the manufacturer, unless the manufacturer has given permission for copying and distribution. Sounds hard no? Then let me give some examples of when it's perfectly legal:

- Demos and shareware versions are perfectly legal to copy, not because they're "stripped down" versions of the full game, but because these versions use the "Try Before You Buy" principle. Consider them free samples you see in the supermarket every once in a while
- Freeware games. Only the manufacturer can declare a game freeware, nobody else. One Must Fall 2097 has been declared freeware (almost 5 years ago, yet it's still being sold on Epic Classics, how odd), but not any of the full Jazz Jackrabbit games. Just because a game is "discontinued" doesn't mean it's freeware, it has to be declared freeware by Epic Games first. And we know that will never happen

That's the basic rundown. By the way, why is this in the "Future of Jazz" forum? Shouldn't it have been moved by now, especially after a visit from Derby?
