General stuff to make sure other general stuff runs generally well:
1. First install the game and see if it works. If it doesn't look for the error messages that will most likely be unhelpful.
2. Get all of the game's patches.
3. Try running it in Win9x mode.
4. Consult someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
