I raced across the island again, back to the broken machine. Nobody else was there. Uberbob, Fawriel, and Leetzan were elsewhere searching for a way to disable whatever was interfering with their teleportation device. I had no idea where Fooruman was, but he was quite possibly in the middle of space. Araches, on the other hand, was fairly close by, if I remembered the layout of the island correctly.
I examined the lantern I had just traded for. It looked old fashioned and slightly Japanese in nature. The bottom was labeled "Hydrogen fusion reactor powered, with additional slot for 9 volt back-up battery". Despite being a little unnerving, I guessed this made it a high-quality lantern.
