I decided to get back on topic. "Will you come back with me?"
"What do you think, Sherlock?" Araches asked, with all the subtlety of a brick.
"Well... you do know that this island is going to blow up, right?"
"And where did you get this information?"
"Well, there was this loudspeaker and-"
Araches laughed. "And you BELIEVED it? Smoke and mirrors, it's all smoke and mirrors."
I saw an oppertunity. "That's what people generally say of magic."
"...I'll give you that, sugar."
I wasn't going to be talked to like that, but I didn't see any way to stop Araches. One does not try to stop a powerful sorceress when unarmed and exhausted. Instead, I tried to change the subject again. "Speaking of magic, what new magic tricks do you have?"
"Wanna find out?"
I didn't like her tone of voice. I tried to salvage my situation. "I'm not g-"
...no, that would have made it worse. For my pride, anyway. I was better off not trying.
