Straightforward answer: Battle1 is the default battle level. By the time you succeed in changing the gamemode to battle, chances are you'll be too tired by then to change the level name, so it remains battle1.

More complicated answer, battle1 has the feel of the right size, while battle2 seems too small and battle3 seems too big.
