You need to press AND HOLD the left Alt and then use the Numpad for the numbers (on the right of the keyboard). Press the numbers in the order they are displayed, for example:
Alt+789 =
(Hold Left Alt) - Press 7 on Numpad
(Hold Left Alt) - Press 8 on Numpad
(Hold Left Alt) - Press 9 on Numpad
Make sure Numlock is on.
Now anyone could understand it... I think.
