I do not think that because one team wants to make a game (which has not been endorsed by any company and is in troubled trademark/legal grounds), an entire community should work against any attempt to empower the franchise. It's good to have people make efforts, but it's also definitely a rather backfiring attitude to say "don't do anything, just wait for us". That's one of the biggest failing reasons for projects - creating too much dependencies. If your project is well thought through and strong, it will probably work regardless of how outside factors work out. If your game engine and ideas are strong enough, even a non-endorsement by Epic would not crush it. So focus on making a strong game, not on tweaking the external world on your behalf.
