The typical solution is to sketch it, put it away for a day or so, then go back to it and correct any errors you notice. However, a neat trick if you don't have that kind of time (such as, huge project due in one day) is to mirror the image (or look at it in a mirror, if you draw by dragging brittle stones across tree carcasses). Over the course of drawing you become accustomed to errors, but they'll become apparent if you look at the picture from a new direction.
