I'd suggest reading the articles on JCSref if you haven't yet. That's where I learned it. The generator is event 216.

Trigger crates can be spawned with certain ID's, although may end up with an initial crate with the wrong ID.

This article explains it pretty well. Also, my rock paper scissors level in plunK's single screen ctf contest pack uses it very heavily, if you want to look at it.
