Suppose there is a single boolean setting, like most other settings. When the setting is off, I assume all icons are on the left. When the setting is on, flags are on the right, but what about padlocks and skulls?
To me, "universal" sounds like it would put padlocks/skulls on the right, but "classic" sounds like it would leave them both on the left. But Faw has endorsed both words.

It would make more sense if one setting puts them all to the left (detached), the other option all to the right (attached), and not cater towards how any of this was inconsistent in legacy versions. Some things were on the left, some things on the right. Mirroring past inconcistency will never turn the setting into how people want it. The inconsistency needs to be fixed and then the boolean should apply.
Instead of referring to 'classic', maybe just name it "Attach icons to playername" with "/attachplayericons on" with on as the new default. Message: "The game icons have been attached to your playername on the player list."
on by default because the CTF scene mostly wants it how icons for flags in CTF are displayed, and we can't dismiss that this is the biggest gamemode in multiplayer. So it makes sense to base it off that and not B-side gamemodes that aren't as popular like JB or LRS.
One more thing:
- Hiding spectators should with tab. It makes more sense to work that way, because tabbing is primarily to quickly glance at the in-game scores.
