It's adjusted a bit, I would hesitate to call it the exact middle, but yes
Also,
-reduce player names' spacings to fit within a maximum width so that names/icons are less likely to overlap with scores
-use less horizontal space for drawing player numbers when only players 1-9 are present
-introduce an optional parameter to jjPLAYER::iconSet for icons that really need to be drawn to the left of player numbers

No, the default should be whatever gives new players the most intuitive experience. Old players know how to change settings, new players should not be expected to be able to figure that out.
...unless there'd be some way to detect whether a player is updating from a previous version of JJ2+, and give them a different default based on that? hmmmm

I probably agree (if I know what "should with tab" means), but this should be a separate thread. In particular, it's somebody else's code.
