MEGAWARP is ILLEGAL
I've been getting more and more people asking me for megawarp recently, and it is getting really annoying. I still regret making that program, even though stuff like J2HG may never have been formed if I didn't. I've done research on copyright laws for my past school year, and have a few points to make: - Because I made megawarp, I hold the copyright. Therefore, I am the only one legally allowed to make copies of it, unless I give permission.
- I gave megawarp to four people, and did not give them permission to spread it. Accepting an illegal program is just as bad as giving it away.
- Even if megawarp does not have a copyright notice on it, I still have copyright, because you do not need to put a notice on something for it to be copyright. Megawarp was copyright from the moment I created it.
- Because I only gave megawarp to four people, anyone else who has it is committing a crime. Under Canadian law, copyright offences are punishible with a fine of up to one million dollars and five years in prison. US and other countries have similar punishments, though I don't know the specifics.
- Megawarp is the equivalent of warez for anyone other than the original four people.
Although I am not likely to get anyone in trouble for spreading or having megawarp, I still want everyone to know this. I don't think anyone realized that the program is illegal to have or to spread, and isn't just a bad cheat program. In fact, I'm glad that it is a cheat program, because many people will not spread it because of this fact. If I had made a really good program that got out accidentaly, I'm sure many more people would have it.
