Exclamation 1.25 Beta Is Here!

So you thought you would never see the day. Well, you thought wrong. The greatest kept secret in JJ2 history (sorta) is finally available to the public. Team Elite, the makers of the patch, have been working on this project for the past few years, and what they have so far is pretty impressive. They now want to beta-test it with 15 players who have never seen the update before. So the first 15 to sign up get to see it.

The patch has an onslaught of updates, so I'll name a few just to give you an idea:
  • Online Race Mode
  • Built-in Team Battle
  • Built-in Instagib
  • Fixed Team Chat
  • Additional Layers for JCS
  • Ability to use up to 3 Tilesets at once
  • Water colors are changable in 16-bit
  • Instand Death at the bottom of levels
  • Bot support
  • Ability to use .ogg or .mp3 formats
  • Optional Friendly Fire
  • Optional Time Limit
  • Custom enemies
  • Cut Scenes
  • Anti-Cheat Protection
  • New Continue and Game Over features
  • Additional Warp Background options
  • Improved Sugar Rush
  • Forced correct colors of names in team games
  • More parameters for a variety of events (too many to list)

Higher resolutions and an additional playable character were intended to be added, but there were complications. Screenshots will be posted as soon as possible.

Early April Fool's joke.
My "JJ3 is coming" April Fool's joke was SO much better.
But I'll take the bait anyway.
*Signs up on the off-chance this is actually real*

It would have been pretty funny if this wasn't a hoax. Since this is a hoax, it's not funny.

It would have taken me like a second longer to realize this was an April Fools' Day Joke if I was in a time zone where it wasn't 4:52 PM on March 31st.

In any case, sign me up. I learned well from GMail. But there's no way this is possible without the source code, folks.

They're mostly showing off multiple tilesets, with a couple examples of 16-bit water color and the sugar rush. And what appears to be a vertically aligned textured layer 8.

Different color of 16-bit water (this could probably actually be done without too much trouble, but I'm just guessing), layers that go in front of water.

Different form of textured background.

Different color of 16-bit water, maybe ambient lighting but it's hard to tell.

Multiple tilesets, background looks a bit odd but I'm not sure.

CTF arrow in treasure hunt... the palette looks weird but I don't feel like testing it.

More fancy effects added to sugar rush, plus utter disregard for how JJ2 works.

Multiple tilesets, and we can see that the level uses some sort of "primary" palette. One wonders how well this would work in 8-bit...

Multiple/new tilesets, different centerpoint of textured background, new game mode.

"This is not a hoax. This is not April Fools day. You did not read this message." - this was obtained from the newspost on J2O. It's in very small writing, so pay close attention and copy and paste it into Notepad and/or Wordpad. Oh, and Thanks to Blackraptor.

This lame hoax is over. I think I'll just look at the nice pictures for a while now.

Eh, the palette's inconsistent. I suppose logically if we accept all claims as being true, Pyro et all could certainly have reworked JJ2's color handling to not rely quite as much on palettes, but that would again be hard on 8-bit and it seems sort of a pointless change.

Maybe if we accept the claims that they have made a 1.25 patch, and that it does all they claim, we can accept that it is indeed so, and they have altered JJ2 in such a way, that all this is possible. But, until we have solid evidence, such as them giving it to those of us that agreeded to try it, I'm taking this as a hoax.

*Signs up anyway, still believing it's a hoax, until proved otherwise.*
(I signed up near the top too)

EDIT: Hey, for all we know, they may have taken 8-bit out completely, assumuing it's real.
