Rip-offs in Jazz2

Screenshot from Earthworm Jim 2 (produced in 1995, shown here is GBA version from 2002 but it's basically the same):

Metroid game theme (1986):

I'm sure there are more. Go find'em!

The EWJ stuff is not very surprising, since the game's artist is a self-proclaimed EWJ Freak.
And if you dont beleive me, go read the intereview in the characters section of J2O

Earthworm jim also had a move similar to jazz's copter ears.

I don't see the resemblance in the Metroid theme song...

Also, we're all forgetting the other fast, miscolored forest animal.

No, Sonic the Hedgehog.
And then Sega pulled a fast one and created their own speedy forest animal with a gun, Shadow.

It resembles the JJ1 Lagunicus theme.

Lagunicus doesn't sound much like the Metroid theme, IMO.

Regarding the Jazz2 water level theme:

In the original module, the samples are listed as follows

Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Water Level Music

(c)1996
Alexander Brandon

Respects to Hip Tanaka

The metroid theme mixes in at pattern 2 in XMPlay and doesn't sound at all like it after pattern 5.

But it's a sweet arrangement.

Another reference was the buttstomp, which was inspired from a move you can use in Super Mario World.

75% of jump&run games have a move like that. =l

The raven of JJ2 looks a lot like the one from Earthworm Jim aswell.

Uh, I might try to get the old EWJ game work on my PC again. The memories. =)

Seeing as Nick was a EWJ freak, it's safe to assume the move was pulled from EWJ.

I was re-reading this and remembered that there were also Ravens on Exoticus in JJ1. Since many enemies returned from JJ1, I guess the raven did also.

Didn't know. Back then when I was very young and owned JJ1 I never made it through Technoir. ;D

By the way, Jim's basic weapon is also called Blaster strangely.

And Spaz's looks like a recolor of it.

Those mice on Candion look more than a bit like Spazz, and Bloxonius had a giant stuffed toy Spaz in it...
