Anniversary Bash VIII

It's about the time in a year when we need to prepare for the upcoming Anniversary Bash event. And so, anyone's got suggestions or volunteers?

Silly R3p...

Levels that we certainly should have are already mostly included inthe CTF and battle/TB levels in the JJ2WC3 map pool and then there's Yasco's Electric Danger.

We should have a treasure server for the Bash.
Maybe that way the gamemode will gain some popularity.

I'll volunteer to help out with the packs. Help out only though, not be the actual person assembling them as I have barely been active lately and don't have time.

Oh yeah, and I support the idea of having more than a battle and ctf gametype during the bash (last time we had a semi-official Ground Force bash server which attracted quite a bit of attention if I recall correctly. FQuist or someone hosted it), although preferably not at the same time (I liked last year's structure where one gametype was hosted for a bit, then another) as that wouldn't work well (from what i've seen before, having two dedicated bash servers at once either 1) Splits up people and makes there be less people in a server which equals less fun and more of a feeling of emptyness or 2) having everyone flock to one server and have the other be empty/near empty).

I think that having groups of people (the community) somehow decide what levels are in the packs would be a good idea.

I don't know why this hasn't been attempted yet.

Make a poll with all alternatives there is, then you get to mark like 15 lvls for each game mode, or something.

Hmm.. I've missed alot in JJ2 last weeks, but I know some levels that could get in the pack(not calling my levels, although I would like a level in of course) but I think some old levels and some new levels is good. Not that levels that you see in every Bash though..
Well, there weren't alot of good MP levels last year.. so there have to be old levels too.

What about having two people create a pack suggestion and then posting the pack early on to the public so that others can give feedback? It's inbetween having the pack created totally by voting and doing it without any outside help. People could veto levels, or something.

Useful list of volunteers so far (alphabetical order):
Blackraptor
Birdie
Cooba
N00b

The volunteers for the pack are usually selected by the J2O admins, but really it's just the community's choice - we're not the official bash organisers, we just do it since no-one else does. So... what about some more talk here, since the community is you..

Summer Dreams is more suited to a large crowd, since it's a huge map. But yeah, I like the temple ruins better myself.

  9. Battle in Treasure C ~ Elliot
  10. Forgotten Castle ~ Snooze
  11. Galactic Feedback ~ BlurredD
  12. Jagged Ectoplasm ~ Lark
  13. Gold Rush Mountains ~ White Rabbit
  14. Tall Towers ~ EvilMonkey/Akukitsune
  15. The Underground ~ FireSworD
  16. Shock Station ~ Blackraptor
  17. Spider Swamp ~ defalcon

What's wrong with non underhosted levels? It's not that people host custom battle levels too often, anyway...

...and:

Forgotten Castle = no, too small
Tall Towers = no, there are tons of better wsf levels
The lava cave = no, not good enough imo

i could live with everything else

I think Cooba was gearing more towards stuff unhosted in your regular old-shmoe server, not something like the battle server that is hosted 24/7 for the most part and has a selection of decent battle levels to play.

I don't even think I ever finished a real game in Galactic Feedback. I should probably go make a better level.

I'm fine with just about any list as long as the levels are decent (I would say at the very least a 7.2 if uploaded on J2O), no more than 20 levels are used unless it's really necessary (even with 20, many people won't be able to play in all the levels when they are hosted), and no levels are included from the previous AB pack (this is so levels can't be included pack after pack instead of other decent levels. If people want to play a level from the last AB, they can just play it from that pack, which will probably be hosted anyway). I think everyone else can work out all the other issues.

On a side note, Buccaneer Bay was never hosted regularly on Battle Server. You're probably thinking of The Corsair's Coast, Birdie.

your probably right. Could you replace Virtues with Ice Temple Ruins by Odin? I think its probably best not to have so many levels in castle sets.

"So many"? The only Castle level other than Virtues is Forgotten Castle, which uses the Eclipse tileset modification anyway. And besides, I considered adding Ice Temple Ruins, but I think I lost it somewhere when I made a big rehash on the early version of the list. Sorry Odin ;D

There would still be the levels from the second-to-last AB pack and earlier. Plus people can always make new levels at the last minute.
