JJ2 1.24 - Class.exe

Okay when i got my JJ2 1.24 it came with a file called class.exe.
its icon is a brick wall and when run it is instructions on merging new episodes and such into JJ2 1.24, so i kept it.

Today i updated my virus scanner, it tripped it 16 times with various components of it, saying that as of June 19th 2009 it is recognized as a virus file with several trojan components.

I have gotten several copies with this file, is this just me though?

anyways if you have it i urge you delete it.

UPDATE:

I checked my original disk from March 20th 1999 when i burned it, it turned up positive, and has also infected my system backup. Please delete this file.

Smells like a false positive to me (the generic "Trojan" detections tend to be a bit trigger-happy), especially given that the file's been around for over ten years without being tagged as a virus.

I remember coming across a pirated copy of TSF with a class.exe inside the distribution. It was a neat little message from the warez group itself. I've always loved those warez intors.

Class.exe is probably a packed .exe (it's been compressed to take up less disk space), seeing it's supplied by a warez group. Packed executables often trigger a false positive, because the virus scanner sees "compressed" as "obscured", and goes for a "better safe than sorry" approach. While you should of course be cautious with everything warez0rized, this sounds like such a false positive.

You could possibly be right on that. That is the same class yes. I guess its pirated my dad got it when i was 7 so i can't say. and the virus scanner said that there was a smaller .exe with a hexcode type name hidden inside of class, it could be a false positive, but ill leave it deleted anyways

I can absolutely guarantee (for reasons that should be obvious but without saying enough to get me incarcerated) that class.exe included with a copy of TSF does not contain a virus.

For the record, I do own a legal copy of TSF, which I paid the ludicrous import fees for.

I think he has a different class.exe then I had. I don't remember any instructions or something. My class.exe started with some weird tv scenes from Southpark and more, then some music played and you could watch some credits in an endless loop.

I remember class.exe. Everybody who had TSF around here had bought a pirated copy, so they all had it. Wasn't there some signature around here based on it?

I remember that these kind of files (or other random files released by warez groups) that contain some sort of netcode, are also likely to be detected by newer virus scanners. Though I don't think they'd use any kind of internet access.
