What? Does that means I can save the chatlog in another directory?

People who are out in LRS should automatically go into spectator mode. This way they won't have to type /spectate, and their name will stay red.

Also, ricerind suggested that the chatlogger should have a box where you can send chat. Seems like a good idea, especially for servers who are idle but want to communicate.

-Players spectating can't send/receive team chat though

Please make it possible to receive chat. Preferably from both teams... There could be a setting for it

A setting to make people spectate by default would be useful.

I'd also like a function to announce a certain message every X seconds. Like /announce 10 hello would make the console say "hello" every 10 seconds.

Elaborating on this, it would be nice for the server or admins to be able to control who is spectating, and have a /forcespectating command. By doing this, only people who the server allows will be able to play, and everyone else has to watch. This could be good for 2vs2 games or something where you want to open it up and allow people to watch the action, but don't want to run any risk of them interfering.

Obviously, for this to work the server would need to enable plusonly.

Then a "team lock" would be useful too, so you could close a team when it's full and have the people who then join either go to the other team (if that hasn't been locked yet) or to spectating. This would be useful for tournament matches.

I get this AV every now and then. When I got this I'll get the same error every time I restart JJ2 until I reboot the computer. After rebooting JJ2 runs fine for a while, usually until a certain point where I get this message again and JJ2 refuses to run until the next reboot.

After you have done the small stuff like that, make a web access thingy to remotely view the chat and manage the server without the need of having JJ2 installed. Thanks! =D

You might want to check Task Manager after getting that error. Sometimes when Jazz2 crashes it stays open and you have to kill the process.

I've already mentioned that to Blur during the bash, but I agree with DoubleGJ's idea.

Its annoying to lose logs because of an accidental amnesia error.

Also, you could add commands that do not absolutely require a parameter as well as boolean commands to the Plus Settings menu. Put the Autorun boolean option you currently see when you click the menu into the menu too, the same way JJ2 does for a couple of menu items (like Ambient Lightning and Play Music). Also add an 'Initial Settings...' menu item that opens a settings window where you can easily set INI-settings and a 'Level list...' menu item that opens a window that lets you manage the level list. You could even add a menu item 'Advanced...' that allows you to perform Project Controller-like operations that do require parameters.

This would make it possible to replace typing
t/idleserver on
t/kickidlers on
t/spectating on
t/remoteadmin on

with just 8 quick mouse clicks. (or 4 mouse drags as I usually don't release the mouse button when using menus something I got used to by playing RollerCoaster Tycoon)

I get the feeling that all of that stuff is planned, just not very high priority. Better to spend time working on new features and fixing current ones, than spend a bunch of time coding a gui, which is probably pretty time consuming. Commands are kind of annoying to memorize but on the other hand they are very quick to implement.

Seeing as there is a currently unusable "plus options" menu, JJ2+ will likely have all those features eventually.

Hm.
If you spectate, and put spectate off again you start at a start position.
Cant you start at the position you were last at? Espescially with tests for example its annoying.

An Idea (for jj2+ I guesss)

How about a team battle pestilence? So people could team chat. To separate it from pestilence it could have vampires instead o:

I think BlurredD deserves a big well done on achieving so much with JJ2+, such a fantastic addon

I noticed it has commands such as /list /delist and a method to minimize to the tray

Couldn't they be expanded into command line arguments, then it could be used in a Dedicated Server environment?

For example, having a jazz2server.bat file which reads:

Code:
:start
.\jazz2.exe -network -battle -battle1.j2l -list -minimize
copy .\jazz2.log .\jazz2crash.log
goto start
(Just a quick guess at the command line arguments there, I know there is a way to start it via command line, but only as a network tcp game with no way to list.)

Then if there is a way to turn off error messages, so when Jazz2 gets an error, it just closes, then the bat file will continue to run and copy the log file to a crash file and reload Jazz 2.

Just an idea, but it seems that JJ2+ and a bat file would make a more usable dedicated server.

Very good idea. This could also be useful to run a battle server that doesn't need a level pack which has levels in a specific order: just have the server run while setting it to cycle to any random level in the level list after a level completes in the batch file. This way someone could host a server that has all the battle levels ever uploaded to J2O that have a rating of 7+ or so.

EDIT: Another cool thing would be to add a (possibly optional) probability parameter to all files in a levellist.ini file which can be set to a number ranging from, say, 0.1 to 10.0. The higher the number, the bigger the chance that the level will be picked when cycling to a random level in the list. In this case, all levels that do not have the parameter set should have a default probability of 5.0. For the 'persistent server', the J2O ratings can be included in the levellist.ini file as a probability.

A few things I noticed.

Adding levels to levellist.ini by dragging to plus.exe works, but only for small numbers of levels. I tried adding several hundred at once and it gave an error.

If there is a missing entry in levellist.ini, like this:

064=blah.j2l
066=blah2.j2l

and you try to go /levellist sort, it will only sort up to level 64. After that it will keep the list the same as it is. Sorting should probably arrange the list so that blank entries are removed.

When hosting, I noticed that minimizing jj2 cuts cpu more than the shift+f2 method. I also noticed that lowering the resolution and minimizing basically cuts cpu to 2% or so. It would be nice if some sort of special hosting option could be implemented so the game constantly runs at that cpu level (or less). This can be done by having the game not render graphics, or setting the resolution to something like 1x1 if that's possible. It would be like a ghetto dedicated server: still uses the jj2 exe, but the host itself is unable to play. Obviously input would have to be handled through some other means, such as an improved chatlogger.

The reason I suggest this is mostly to have a hosting option that is as resource light as possible.

Also, it would be really neat (if it's possible) if could implement a server command that enables MP3 support (I dunno if it's possible. Surprise me!) just like /supportmp3s on and so then others can change the music to, say, Holy Orders.mp3 if they want. If it's not enabled, then it would give you an error message saying: "Error: MP3 music support is not enabled on this server."

Why couldn't that be done locally instead?

(J2O possibly wouldn't endorse MP3 support in JJ2.)

Just so the host would know about if MP3s are being listened to. You guys could make it client-side, as the host doesn't really need to know, however.

I was just going to post what Birdie did. Why would it even be necessary to use such a feature? I don't see how JJ2 has any advantage over winamp (or your favourite audio programme) in terms of audio playing performance.

That's just like saying the /changemusic function is already useless... because you can run Winamp when Jazz2's music is muted. It'd just be a nice addition, imo, because the ability to change the music has already been implemented.

Has been around since Project Controller, and is pretty simple. Implementing mp3 support into a track module sound system is somewhat less simple.
