I've got audio problems with jazz 1

Hi, I downloaded a copy of jazz jackrabbit 1, but i couldn't open the EXE file, so I 've downloaded the Xmas version, and I can run it, but the sound is quite bad, for example if u shoot the shot sounds two times, one time and then one more time, i mean that the sounds appear duplicated and too slow, the music is horrible with this bug... how can I fix it? and, how can I run the normal version?

Srry if my post is hard to understand, but my enlglish isn't very good.

That's because of faulty sound card settings in the setup file.
Try experimenting, that's what I did to get the correct sound.

P.S. Your English is very good compared to a lot of other people's around here (or just on the internet period). ;D

It's a common problem on recent computers, the easiest way to fix it is to play with DOSBox.

You can fix the framerate issue (I think) with using Dosbox and Dfend together. Tutorial's here:

Another option I am happy with is to use VMWare to run DOS and run JJ1 inside that for near-flawless and easily tweakable performance. The issue is that you need to have DOS installation media and it can be a pain in the butt to make work.

It also might be advisable to not openly admit you stole JJ1. ;p

I've got an original copy (it's true) but when I saw that I couldn't run it, I downloaded the game... but the problem were still there... I've got this game for 12 years, or more!

Anyway, if DOSBox is running too slow I'd suggest fiddling around in DOSBox.conf (open it with notepad). I'm too tired to figure out exactly what, but there should be an option to set the CPU type to "dynamic". Also, give it more RAM by adjusting the maximum ram string.

Also, if I remember correctly, you can press T to make the game enter or exit 'slow motion mode'.

That's true, but Slow Motion Mode was mainly meant to practice levels on hard mode and such.. And Jazz is working fine on my current DOSBox settings, WinXP had the option to run it by using VDMSound but this doesn't seem to work on my current Vista stuff. Nah atleast Win95/98 was easely able to run it by patching the exe to remove the turbo pascal crash for 'newer' systems.

It's such an obvious solution that you might have tried it already, but does giving DOSBox more CPU cycles with ctrl+f12 help?
